lost registration key

Post by jojo » 25 Sep 2013 12:11

I recently purchased and installed a boxed/cd copy of Family Historian 5. Last week I bought a new computer and yesterday tried to install said program. I can't as it is asking for my registration key which I cannot find. It is not printed on the CD cover nor on the booklet that came with the program. I must have had it I suppose to register in the first place. Did I put it somewhere safe and now can't remember where, who knows?

My query is, can I get this number from somewhere and if so who?

Desperate now!

See the how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> How to (Re-)install Family Historian guide.
In particular checkout the Installation Archive and Licence Problems sections.

Were the details printed on a slip of paper or printed on the outside of the boxed set?

The Registration Key is several groups of 6 alpha-numeric characters such as 0001H2-VKQ2AZ-TP4MC5-V0B59C-PYF6EN-7BUZ0Y.

You could try contacting your supplier, but even they might not be able to help. Sorry!

Thanks for taking the time to help me Mike. It doesn't sound good though, does it? :( I really can't remember what the registration key came on but it is not in the booklet or printed on the box - how much more sensible would that have been? I am always so careful with anything that may be needed again and only have a few places to file these things. Sod's Law that the one time I need something precious to me and it isn't there! My head hurts with all the searching over and over again! I have email Calico pie to ask them what I should do next.

Your help is much appreciated Mike.

If you email Calico Pie, make sure you check your spam folder, BT has a habit of eating mails from them and putting them in the spam folder.

It's not practical to print licenses on the Box. What I do with any licenses is to record them in a spreadsheet which I keep carefully backed up.

My registration key came printed on a piece of paper about the size of a postcard with "Don't Lose This Key" printed in large letters at the top and "Family Historian 5" printed in white on a green strip up the left hand side. (sorry - not trying to rub it in - might help you recognise it)

Many thanks Xantex, this will help if I go looking again although it doesn't ring any bells at the moment! I'm going to try to set up my old computer (now in loft of course!) and see if I didn't delete the program before dismantling as I have been told how to get the licence number from properties on that.

Wish me luck.

Jo.
