Order of sources

Post by Joolie » 02 Apr 2013 10:49

Is there a way of ordering sources other than changing the source number.

I have source information for more recent censuses which is appearing before older ones.

To assist in answering your question, when you say information for more recent sources is appearing before older ones, what view are you looking at?

On the Tools menu you can click on Re-order Out-of-Sequence Data... which might do the trick.

Many thanks for the replies, I've tried the out of sequence tool but that doesn't solve the problem. It's when I publish an individual summary report; I have for example the source information (at the end of the report) appearing for the 1881 census before that of the 1871.

They appear in the order than they occur in the report, as is normal for citation listings, so you must information in the report which refers to the later census first, for example a birth date or name, look at the source references in the report to find the fact.

It's sorted.[grin] Thank you for the replies.  Thank you Jane, I would never have spotted it, but the birth was linked to the later census, putting the census sources in the wrong order.  I got rid of the source connection and everything went into the correct order. Don't you just love the feeling when the penny drops.  Now all I need to do is figure out if there is a query that would check the other 2,600 odd members of my tree? [rolleyes]

Why are you worried about the Sources in the order they are cited? It's normal to identify the first place you find a person's birth date and place by quoting the census in which you found it. I would be careful of removing them especially when it's the only source you have for the Birth event.

Yes, thank you Jane, I hadn't thought about that. I'll have to give it some thought.
