CD Pictures and text help please

Post by jmpjack » 16 Mar 2013 20:01

I love the pop up version of the pictures when you create a CD but I wonder is there any way of putting the pictures under the text on the CDs rather than on the right hand side. I see you can put them above and on the right, but there doesnt seem to be any provision to put them under the text. Am I missing something please?

Also I wonder how I can change the currently default grey font ( the one that links to other individuals) to one which is a bit brighter to help someone who has eyesight difficulties please.

Many thanks for any assistance
Jackie

I am not aware of any way to put pictures under the text.

However, there are ways to adjust the colour and size of text.
In the Knowledge Base section Family Historian ~ Intermediate Guide there is the topic Make a Family Tree CD/DVD or Website.
Under its Tips and Tricks and Popups section there is Alter CSS Default Styles.
The mystyle.css file needs to contain:

Code: Select all

body {font-size:110%}
a:link {color:blue}
a:visited {color:darkblue}
a:hover {color:red}
.FhIndexList a:link {color:blue}
.FhIndexList a:visited {color:darkblue}
.FhIndexList a:hover {color:red}
Alternatively, in the Wizard Step 8 – Final Details click Advanced button and Copy & Paste the following code into at the end of the section:

Code: Select all

<style>
body {font-size:110%}
a:link {color:blue}
a:visited {color:darkblue}
a:hover {color:red}
.FhIndexList a:link {color:blue}
.FhIndexList a:visited {color:darkblue}
.FhIndexList a:hover {color:red}
</style>
The font-size can be any % you prefer to adjust the text size.
The link color is as initially presented.
The visited color is after you've clicked the link.
The hover color is as you mouse over the link.
You can choose any colors from the list at CSS Color Names.

I think you can also change colours via the Colours... button at Step 7 of the wizard:

You are absolutely correct Peter. That had completely slipped my mind.

See Step 7 – Presentation & Behaviour Colours button.

Also the text size can be changed in the Report Options on the Format tab, for say the Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD).
See Report Content, Media, Format & Layout Format tab.

Thank you Peter, in fact I had done as Tatewise suggested and that works fine, but I will tinker with it to get the colours that look right

One other thing about the pop ups though I wonder if someone could answer. Having burned a draft onto CD, can you tell me how I get the pop ups to be a readable size please? They seemed ok on the 'preview' setting but now they are on disc and being run from it it seems they are only loading to about half a browser page size. Ideally I would like them larger than this. They seemed to be fine when I had the irritating message at the top of the browser warning me about Active Content, but if this switched off to allow blocked content then the pictures seem to reduce in size! I have tried using the zoom level on the browser itself but this doesnt work very well. As I am doing this for someone with eyesight difficulties ( and even less computer literate than I am) I would like to make it easy for them just to click on the picture and get a 'full size' version

Also the disc doesnt seem to want to Autorun. I am trying to get it to work on an XP system ( having created it on Windows 7) as this is what the recipient is using. The folder does have the autorun on it but it only seems to work if I double click the start icon. Is there a different setting I should use for XP?

Any ideas please? Thanks
Jackie

BTW: Click the orange text below to link to the associated section.

In the Knowledge Base section Family Historian ~ Intermediate Guide there is the topic Make a Family Tree CD/DVD or Website with lots of advice.

With hindsight, it is probably better that you use the FH Wizard Step 7 – Presentation & Behaviour options to adjust colours.
That step also has options to adjust the size and style of Image Popups, so give them a try.

Also the Plugin Improve Website or CD DVD HTML offers alternative Image Popup options to try, and other useful adjustments.

You don't need to burn the FH CD-DVD folder to CD to check its operation on XP.
Simply copy the folder to a USB pen-drive and open it from there.
The presentation should be the same regardless of whether it runs from your hard disk Project ...PublicFH CD-DVD folder, a USB pen-drive, or a CD/DVD.
It is the versions of Windows (XP or 7) and the browser (IE or Firefox or Chrome) and their settings that have a greater affect.
Could you give more details of which combinations are not working well.

CD AutoPlay is notorious for problems, and is often disabled for various reasons.
Even if you get it working on your test XP system, that is no guarantee that it will work on your recipient's PC.
If you Google Search for XP CD autorun enable there are lots of suggestions. Try this one:
   Enabling AutoPlay in Windows XP
   Open My Computer
   Right-click the CD-ROM drive or other drive and click Properties.
   Click the AutoPlay tab. Within this section you will be able to specify all Windows AutoPlay features.

Thank you so much Tatewise. That is so helpful. As Im not too sure about the recipients XP settings I will tell him just to use the start button if it doesnt run automatically.

Thankyyou for the tip about the USB pen, I hadnt thought of that, that is really useful and I will also have a look at the plugins too

Thanks so much for all your help
