Diagram Boxes

I am just starting with FH5
Default Box text seems to be Name: DOB DOD Relation
I would like to include place of birth
How do I do this please?

Pifkin, welcome to the FHUG.
With a Diagram open use Diagram > Options or right-click and choose Diagram Options.
Select the Text tab and all Text Schemes are listed.
The Current Text Scheme will probably be the default Birth, Marr, Death.
Any of these can be Cloned and Edited, but should not need changing to display Place details.
Most Text Schemes display the Date and Place of each Fact included, but only if those details exist in your data.
The exceptions are all those that start with Name ... such as:
Name, Dates, How Related to Chart Root
Name, Dates, How Related to File Root
Name, Nickname, Dates
If one of those is selected then simply choose one of the other Text Schemes.
If you need more advice on editing Text Schemes then just ask.

Thank you for your good advice but I am still having trouble! I am just praying that a place comes up on thye next Course on April 18th.
I have rethought my problem. Really I need my diagrams to include Place of birth/usual residence. This gives some idea when the family is so widely spread round the world.
Would it make more sense to customise the Property Box. It looks as though I could use one of the available items that I am never going to use(eg living and Private?) and remember what this means for me or can I just make my own up? In either case I could then presumably just add that into the Diagram boxes as you suggest. If I make that change in the property box then it need to apply to all, I really dont want to alter each one!

It is not clear how using a
Flag such as
Living or
Private (or even a Custom Flag) would help you identify 'Place of birth/usual residence' of each Individual.
Have you worked through the associated tutorial for
Diagram Text Schemes?
See FH
Help > Book: 'Getting the Most From Family Historian 5' > Chapter 9 Setting the Style, Layout & Content of Diagrams.
Did you try any of the Standard
Text Schemes for your
Diagrams?
With a
Diagram open use
Diagram > Options or right-click and choose
Diagram Options.
Select the
Text tab and all
Text Schemes are listed.
Try selecting
Birth, Marr, Death, Occups, Resids + notes and click
Apply.
That will include
BMD, Occupation & Residence Places in each
Diagram box text.
If you simply want a list of all
Place names in your data, then use
Publish > Special Data Reports > Data - Places.
If you need to know where those
Places are mentioned, then
Tools > Work with Data > Places may be more useful.
Select a
Place and click the
Records or
Where Used button on the right.
An alternative is a
Query that lists all
Place names in context.
The simplest is
View > Standard Queries > All Facts, but variants are possible.
Click on the
Place column header and the
Place names are sorted alphabetically.
Blank entries are at the top, so scroll down to find the data.
Finally there are the Plugins
Map Life Events and
Map Life Facts that plot
Place names on Google maps.

I have read the Chaptger/Tutorial but still struggling.
On the tutorial example I have altered the Property Box, replacing the default 'Notes' Box with Residences in which it seems I can enter the items that I need which is where born, where lived eg London/Australia.
My remaining problem is getting just this simple fact into all the diagram boxes. It, or all the closely related items in the Diagram/Options/ text box all come with noytes attached which I don 't want. Just these two words in every box!
Any help available would be appreciated

When you added the lines you must have selected the option to include lines, simply remove the Notes line from the text scheme.

In what follows, I have used the term Flag (capitalised) to indicate a Record Flag in the FH context and flag (all lower case) to indicate a national flag such as the Union Jack or the Canadian Maple Leaf.
If all you want is some sort of at-a-glance reminder on your diagram of which branches are associated with which different countries, have you thought of associating relevant boxes with different national flag icons, along the lines of the following examples:
There are a few sets of national flag icons available in the FHUG Downloads. Record Flags on relevant individual records can be set manually or using a query, eg the ContainsText query. Individual Record Flags can be associated with the relevant national flag icon using the Boxes tab of Diagram>Options. If this technique is of interest, there is a useful article about Flags and Icons in the Knowledge Base.
