Find Individual

Post by makfai » 28 Feb 2013 20:05

When I double click on an existing name I have typed into the Find box on the Individuals page so that I can search for another name the system selects all the letters of the name to be replaced except for the last one. This is no matter how long/short the name is.

For example if the name in the box is Smith the double-click only selects the letters Smit.

Any idea why?

Hi makfai,

I don't have any idea why this happens, but it happens for me if I double click while the cursor is positioned over the name. If I move my cursor to a part of the search box that isn't over the name and double click, it selects the entire name. Maybe someone with more knowledge knows why it is happening.

Very odd, but if you double click in the box, but not on the text it selects correctly.

Interestingly the problem does NOT exist with FH V3, so must have been introduced in V4 or V5.

This seems to be only a cosmetic problem.  For instance if I enter 'Clarke' in the Find box and later click on the name, only 'Clark' is highlighted.  But when I press F3 it finds the next 'Clarke' rather than the next 'Clark' (I happen to have both in my tree).

Peter - point taken but it is more than cosmetic.

Until I spotted what was happening I was deleting what I thought was the whole name and typing in the new one and it was not bringing it up. I then realised that it was because it had the 'rogue' letter at the end.

I never noticed this in previous version or even in the first version of FH5 so what has triggered it is intriguing!

I just noticed the same thing happening when I was typing in a Note.  I wanted to move the last word (a name) I had typed and it highlighted all but the last letter fo the name.  I then tried other words in the Note without a problem.

I then realised that I had not pressed the space bar after the name.  Once I had pressed the space bar then all the letters were highlighted.  I tried the same in the FIND area and the same happened.  The whole word was highlighted providing the space bar had been pressed after the last letter.
