Query For Average Age Of Death

Post by BobWard » 22 Feb 2013 03:39

I don't know if FH can do this, but I am trying to find a way to filter my data to list the age of death for all male members of the Ward family.

I read through the Query Help topics but was not able to formulate a way to do this.

Is such a search possible in FH?

Query For Average Age Of Death

Of course it's possible and it's a fairly simple one.

Create a new Individual query
On the Rows tab add a selection based on the Sex field being Male

The if you want to only pick up people with the Surname Ward add a filter for the Surname part of the Name to be equal to WARD

Now you can turn to the columns tab, it will already have a column for the Individual. You need to add a function to get the age at death it will be something like

=AgeAt(%INDI%,%INDI.DEAT.DATE%)

If you have not created a query before take a look at
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... ng_a_query
for a step by step guide.

If you wanted also calculate the Average you could write a plugin, but if you have Excel simply copy the results to excel to analyse further.

Another option is to File > Export your Gedcom with only the people you are interested in, and run the Show Project Statistics Plugin on the exported Gedcom.
