Family Historian User Group

I have 3 pictures linked to a face in the property box. They are in order of entering.
I used the preference button to choose the one that appears on the diagram.
When I look at the report for the person the pictures are aligned at the top going from left to right as in the property box, but I would like them to be in age order. I cannot find away of rearranging them without changing the one in the diagram. I was looking for one of those up down arrow things but to no avail.
I have version 5.0.7
Please can someone help ?

Not sure if this will work in your situation but if the date is set on the photo they are organised by date.

You will need start by arranging the pictures in the desired order for reports, using the + and - preference buttons in the property box. Then use the 'Exclude from Diagram' option for all the pictures which come before your preferred diagram picture in the sequence.

You can do this by clicking on each picture in turn in the multimedia tab of the property box to open the Edit Media Item dialog, then tick 'Exclude from Diagrams' near the bottom and click OK. The picture which shows in the diagrams will be the first one in the sequence which does not have this ticked.

Thank you for your reply. Even though I had the images in the correct age order in the property multimedia they were still not correct in the report.

I had looked at the edit multimedia section loads of times but the exclude from pictures button did not register with me at all. I had read & reread the help section on that bit as well. I really must learn to read and and inwardly digest ! Thank you.

I forgot to say, one slight drawback of the use of 'Exclude from Diagrams' is that the pictures displayed across the top of the Focus window apparently follow the 'Diagram' rule.  This means that any pictures specifically excluded from diagrams will also be excluded from the display on the individual's Focus window.  This seems a pity, as I would expect to see the same sequence in the Focus window as in reports.

Perhaps it would be worth raising a wish list request for the Focus window pictures to follow the rules for exclusion from reports rather than exclusion from diagrams.  Or perhaps ideally we need a third exclusion category: 'Exclude from Focus Window'. It would be useful to be able to select the most representative  pictures, as a maximum of 9 pictures can be displayed in the Focus window.  But maybe this is a refinement too far!  Do others have any views on this?

This would also satisfy the ability 'to select the most representative pictures' for the Focus Window.

On the Multimedia tab of an Individual Property Box the Media are initially listed in Date order, with missing dates last.
A useful Report Option, and perhaps future Focus Window Option, could allow Pictures to be shown in Date order as opposed to Preference order.

BTW: In Diagram Options on the Pictures tab the Preferred Picture to Display can be set to any Preference number, but applies to every box.
This is of limited use unless chosen from the outset.
But if set to a large value it effectively chooses the last Multimedia image in Preference order, instead of the first.

I like this idea in principle, although it would rely estimated dates being entered for pictures when no date is known. It is usually easier to arrange pictures in a plausible chronological order than it is to assign dates.
