Missing Jpeg on DVD

I don't understand why one of the images associated with a Residence attribute is not making it onto a DVD file when I publish it. All other images associated with residence attributes (that I've checked so far) are appearing on the DVD file.

The image in question is linked to a residence attribute for 6 individuals, in each case 'Exclude from Diagrams' and 'Use Note as Caption' is ticked, 'Exclude from Reports' is not ticked. It is missing from the DVD individual summary for each of the individuals concerned. Yet images associated with their other residence attributes both before and after (date wise) the missing one do appear.

Re the image missing from the DVD file, my first check was to make sure the file existed in the FH media folder, it does and is called Kilmacolm32HillsideAvenue.jpg, is 698 x 704 pixels and appears to be a perfectly normal .jpg. The image is associated with a range date but so are other residence images which do appear. In the media folder there are 488 files (446 jpg, 3 MPEG, 36 Tiff, 2 Windows Media & 1 Word Document)

The Individual Summary Report options for pictures are set at 110 max pics for each of Individual, Spouse Family, Spouse, and Children; both check boxes for 'Include Pictures of Individual Events & Attributes' and 'Include Pictures of Family Events & Attributes' are ticked. Some of the individuals to which this image is linked have very few pictures, much less than the report options allow.

I wondered if the number of links to this image might be a factor, it is linked to six individuals but when I check other 'Residence' images that are linked to six individuals they are ok.

I created a physical DVD in August this year when number of images in the Media folder was about half the current number and on checking that DVD I see that the 'missing' image does appear for the individuals concerned. About a month ago when there were more images I created a DVD file which I saved to my hard disc and on checking that I see the image is missing there, I didn't notice it missing at the time.

Next I published an Individual Summary Report (using the same picture settings as for the DVD version of the individual summary report) for one of the individuals concerned - the 'missing' image appears on it!

I am using FH 5.0.9.3 and I am at loss to know what else to check/do and would be grateful for any ideas.

Instead of using the Individual Summary Report why not use the Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD) exactly as used in the Make a Family Tree Wizard.
The you know the settings are exactly as used by the Wizard.
See Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD).

You could also Save Report As > Web Page (HTML) and inspect the contents of the .html file, together with the associated image file(s).

The image file is missing from the DVD folder, but what is the HTML code in the Individual Web Page (.html) files for the six individuals?

The HTML at the start of the body should be something like:

Code: Select all

<body>
<div class='fhcontent fhpageInd'>
<h1 class='FhHdg1'>Anthony Edward MUNRO (1922-1998)</h1>
<div class='fhimgblock fhimgcolumn'>
<div class='fhimgwrap fhimgdimc144'>
<img src='img10-a2-144x188-272x355.jpg' alt='picture' />
<p>Anthony Edward MUNRO, 2001, age 79</p>
</div>
</div>
Where each caption.

P.S.
What is your evidence for saying the image is missing?
The image files in the DVD folder have radically different file-names from the Media file-names.
Is it simply that image does NOT appear in the Report Web Pages?

Thanks for the feedback Mike, following up on your hints I have now discovered the cause.

The image concerned is linked to an individual for whom the 'living' flag is set, and in the DVD Publish>Make a Family Tree CD/DVD I had set the 'Show basic details only' for Individuals when the living flag is set.

What is happening is that even though that same image is linked to five other individuals for whom a living flag is not set, the DVD Creation procedure excludes that image being created for anyone, regardless of the status of their living flag. When I unset the 'Show basic details only' the image appears for all the individuals it is linked to.

It is a moot point as to whether this is a bug or not, on balance probably not?

Re your other queries, I was using the CD/DVD Creation wizard - Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD or DVD), and the image was missing from both the DVD folder and from the individual html's for the six individuals concerned.

In the course of all this I have discovered something interesting that I'd like to understand. When I look at the record Id's in the FH Media window and sort them in ascending order I notice that there are a number of gaps in the record id's. The record id's run from 1 to 544 but for example, the following are missing, 25, 27, 29, 31, 37, 46, etc. There are in total 31 gaps in the record ids. The only reason I can think of is that I have created an image in the media folder at some point, then subsequently deleted it and replaced it with a new one. I do recall doing that on occasion.

Record Id for all 8 types of Record are allocated in ascending sequence  by FH.
When a Record is deleted its Record Id goes with it.
FH does not re-use these Record Id so gaps will get left, unless you use Tools > Work with Record Id and Flags to renumber them, but I do not recommend that.

You will almost certainly find the same gaps in all other Record Windows.
