V5 falls over accessing ancestor etc diagrams

I am using Vista and have upgraded FH continuously since V2.
Today I tried updating from 5.0.4 to 5.0.9. This worked (could move around the data, generate reports etc) except when I tried to enter the diagram facility FH immediately fell over 'Family Historian has stopped working windows will close'
Perhaps foolishly I uninstalled FH and reinstalled from V2 onwards (including the one patch for unable to create directory 'c:windowssytems 32'c:'', I think between v3 and v4). All was well except when V5.0.0 was installed the same diagram failure occurred; previously I had got this version working well.
I have tried using a different gedcom file, but the problem is still there.
I note in the forum this problem has appeared before and there was a suggestion that it is associated with Nvidea cards- but I use ATI Radeon HD3450.
Help please!

For future reference version 5 upgrade doesn't require you to install any earlier versions of FH first. Just install it and enter the version 5 and version 4 serial numbers.

Please checkout
How to (Re-)install Family Historian which gives full details of Nick's advice.
I believe
FH V5.0.0 may have had some Diagram display problems.
I suggest trying the
FH V5.0.7 upgrade that has been 'stable' for some time, whereas the
FH V5.0.9 upgrade is a recent Release Candidate and may have as yet undetected problems.

Thanks for the comments.
I have uninstalled again, and reinstalled from V5 putting in the V4 key. This worked and FH opened fine using the sample gedcom file; however it fell over when diagram facility was accessed.
I followed the suggestion of installing the 5.0.7 upgrade which installed fine and FH opened properly with the sample file, except that as before FH fell over accessing the diagram facility.
I should say that I did all the above logged in as Administrator.
Any further suggestions?

Have you checked the
Data Execution Prevention (DEP) scenario?
If that does not help, then in FH
Tools > Preferences > General tab, click the
Advanced button and try
Installation Settings.
Then try with
Cache Printer Settings unticked.
The
Help button gives background advice.
If that does not help, then in FH
Tools > Preferences > Diagrams tab, click the
Diagram Windows Defaults button.
Restore
Installation Settings on the
General tab,
Pictures tab,
Lines tab,
Proxies tab,
Print tab, and
Dimensions tab.

Have done all those suggestions, trying in between each change. Still the same problem.

Try setting your default printer to the FH PDF Printer before you open the diagrams.

Magic! Just selecting the FH PDF printer does not work, as you said it has to be set as the default.
I will now try going back reversing the tatewise suggestions to the defaults and see if that has any effect.
Thanks very much all of you.

It suggests a problem with your normal printer driver, so it would be worth checking for updated drivers for your normal printer.

I confirm that reversing the tatewise suggestions, but keeping the FH PDF driver as default makes FH run properly.
I can further also confirm that reinstalling my Samsung ML-1915 driver and making it the default printer also solved the problem.
Thanks again everyone.

I have the same problem after the latest release. Changing my default system printer to FH PDF does avoid the crash but isn't a very good long term solution! Is there a fix coming soon?

As Tim found the 'fix' is to ensure you have the latest driver for your printer installed, or if you have the latest driver then try re-installing it.
