Hi,
After solving my upgrade to v5.0.7 problem I now find when I enter a new person the number of individuals increases as it should(RHS bottom corner)after I have saved my work and closed it down, on re-opening that new entry is not there and the number of individuals goes back to what it was before I entered details, have tried this 4 times same thing happens.??

Navigate to our Family Historian Projects [Your Project Name].fh_data folder, then right click on your projects gedcom file (Icon is White with three green squares), choose properties, and check that your file has not been made read-only. If it has untick the read-only box, click OK then try your project again.

John ~ I don't think that is the problem, because FH complains Cannot save. The file ... is Read-only..
Barb ~ can you summarise exactly how you:
1) Open your Project
2) Save your Project
For example, do you Open FH and your Project opens automatically, or do you double-click the Project file itself, or what?
Do you use the Save icon top left, or do you Close FH and click Yes in the Save changes... prompt, or what?

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies, checked first properties and the read only box is not ticked.
Now, I open fh from the icon on desktop by right clicking, then click open. When I finish entering data I click save, top left before I close. I have always done it this way without a problem for years it's just happened since I installed the upgrade.

Hi again,
At my wits end now each time I open fh I get message:enter registration key details exactlly as given to you, leave the name field blank.
I did this 5 times fed up then the 6th time says key is not valid!!!! tired of doing this wasted full day can I just uninstall the damn upgrade and go back to what I had or just forget fh.??

To fix the key entry, Right click on the FH icon and select run as Administrator. Enter your license and close Family Historian down and restart Family Historian. This should force your key in. This seems to happen sometimes when you use a non administration account to upgrade.
Data Recording Problem
I am not sure why you would normally right click to open FH.
When you open your Project what does it say in the Window title?

Hello Jane,
I have just tried to enter again the key registration but can't get into program as message still shows as :entered key is not valid. I copied & pasted the key. So I am locked out of fh now. I was using an administrator account too.

Barb, you misunderstand what to do.
Even though you are in an Administrator account, you must run FH as follows:
Right-click on the h program icon and in the popup list select Run as administrator.
Then enter your Licence details, which should now stick.
In the thread upgradefh5to_5.0.7 you said:
So, I would advise that you reset those accounts/permissions back to their original or default values, to eliminate them as a possible cause of your current problems.
On a general note, from my experience and knowledge of PC, simply repeating the same failing functions over and over, will rarely if ever fix the problem.
You need to seek out the cause of the problem and fix that, by consulting the FHUG Knowledge Base or using the Forums as you have done.

Those changes were not necessary, because it was the download that was at fault.I went into accounts/permissions etc again and unchecked a few things (not sure what as I was just trying everything) also uncheck to run as administrator then restarted.

Barb,
Do you know what the problem with the Anti-Virus was so we can help people with a similar problem in the future?
