Hi

I have a scenario, that I wondered how others tackle.

Paul Jones, marries Sue Smith
She wishes to go by the name Sue Smith-Jones, and they also name their children Smith-Jones.

How/where do you do this in FH5?

Thanks

The normal convention is to record the birth name as the main name, regardless of name changes after one or more marriages, e.g. Sue Smith, in your case.  You could record Sue Smith-Jones as an alternative name and you could create an appropriate name-change custom event with a date, etc.  The children would be recorded with the surname Smith-Jones, as normal.

FH Help has a page: How to Record a Woman's Married Name.

If I can deduce it from evidence, I use the name the individual chose for themself as the primary name (which may not be the birth name). I record all the other names as alternatives with a note detailing sources and dates,
