Year of Birth without hyphen (-)

Hi.  I'm very new to FH; I hope this hasn't already been covered.

I have the Year of Birth for currently young people in a family tree and want to print just the Year of Birth not the Year of Birth followed by a hyphen ....  see attached image, which illustrates the problem.

Is there a way of removing the hypen from the printed text?

Thank you, in anticipation.  Richard.Image

It looks like you are using one of the text schemes which uses the lifedates function, which uses the standard - on the end to show they are still living.

If you simply want the birth date then you can change the scheme to show %INDI.BIRT.DATE:YEAR% how ever if you want to still show both dates and use lifedates for others try

Code: Select all

=TextIf(Exists(%INDI.DEAT%),LifeDates(,STD),%INDI.BIRT.DATE:YEAR%)

Richard, since you are very new to FH, perhaps a pointer to where the change is required would help you.

With the Diagram open select Diagram > Options > Text tab.
If the Current Text Scheme probably based on Name, Dates is NOT one you have customised then click the Clone button to make a copy.
Now click the Edit button and select Life Dates and then click Edit.
Replace the Template with Jane's suggested code above.
Click Test to check its validity and then click OK three times.

WOW !!  Jane and tatewise .... thank you both, so much, for your very fast, most skilled, and most helpful advice.

It works perfectly. '[dancing-banana]'

(Being such a complete novice, I was fearful of doing something that would involve a lot of time and effort - and, no doubt, further requests for your help, to unravel, if it didn't work.  I needn't have worried!)

Thank you, both, once again.

Best Regards, Richard. '[smile]'

Glad to help.
To further your understanding of FH may I suggest the following:
(1) Use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project to create the Family Historian Sample Project. You can experiment with this Project without risk to your master database, and it can easily be reset by running the above command again. However, customisations, such as the Text Scheme change above, will affect all your Projects.
(2) Use the FH Help > Family Historian Help &/or press the Help button where available, and read about the features provided.
(3) Use the FH Help > Book: 'Getting the Most From Family Historian 5' and work through the advice and tutorials.
