Family Historian nbsp;- nbsp;Full Descendant Report
Posted: 18 Mar 2004 18:15
ADDNOTE.EXE is a program to create a full descendant report as an html file. Its start point is a Descendant Report from Family Historian, saved as a .TXT file. ADDNOTE relies on finding in the FH report the personal ID references for each person, enclosed in square brackets.
ADDNOTE operates in three phases :
1. Reads the FH descendant report and extracts all its personal ID numbers.
2. Searches the gedcom file for those personal ID numbers and extracts any notes fields that are found.
3. Creates a new html file consisting of the personal names from the FH report and interleaves in it the personal notes that have been found.
ADDNOTE reduces the degree of indentation by stripping out the tab characters provided by FH and inserting 'white space' for a smaller indentation. This allows a better screen layout. As part of this re-indentation process, ADDNOTE breaks up the long lines used in Windows applications (255 characters) and stitches together any words broken in the process or broken by virtue of the long lines from Windows (which themselves break words).
To improve the appearance of the html output, ADDNOTE writes the personal names in black and the note fields in blue.
Any introductory paragraphs can be edited into the html file with a text editor.
If the html file is displayed in a browser it can be readily copy/pasted into a word processor such as MSWorks where it can be saved as a text file etc.
ADDNOTE is written in the Basica language and compiled into an exe file by the IBM Basic compiler, version 2.00.
The simplest way to use it is probably to create a new folder (subdirectory) and to copy into that folder the descendant report ex FH (eg jenkins.txt), also the ADDNOTE.EXE program. ADDNOTE will create its output files in that same folder. ADDNOTE will ask for the file name of your FH gedcom file. This should includes its path, eg FAMHISTMYGDCOM.GED
