Marking individuals with source information

Post by admin » 25 Apr 2003 08:41

Progeny Software have launched a tool called GenMark.

The Web Site says

How many times have you considered sharing your family history research with others, but were hesitant to do so because your authorship might be lost?

GEDmark, a new family tree tool created by Progeny Software, solves this problem by giving you the satisfaction of knowing your work has been safely marked with your author information.

You can achieve the same thing with Family Historian

Strip all existing sources
You can miss out this first stage if you wish to pass on all source information.

Open your main file (eg main.ged)
Save it as another name (mainwork.ged)
Use the Split tree option to remove all sources, multimedia etc, as you wish. Save the file.

Add sources to all records

Create a New File.
Add a single person to the file. For example Test Test
Merge your main work (mainwork.ged) file into the new file.
You will be prompted to add a source to all new data.
Make sure you change the note to your name as well as the source title.

This will provide you with a source on every record, with your name on it.
You can now delete the Test person you created and save the file.
