Version 4: it's going to be April

Post by admin » 11 Mar 2009 11:32

Simon Orde on the FHU List:
I do apologise for the delay. There is no single reason for this. Version 4 is a big release and there are numerous late-stage tasks to be done before we can release it, and we underestimated how long these would take. As I'm sure you appreciate, we have every motivation to get V4 out as soon as possible; but you wouldn't want us to release it before it's ready, and we won't.

Thank you all for your patience.

I agree

I would rather wait until it is perfect.

There is nothing worse than a programme with continuous problems and patches to restore it.

We will win in the end.

Thanks

Trevor

V4 will be a paid for upgrade for V3. You will be able to either order a CD upgrade from My History or other providers or purchase a downloadable version from Family-historian.co.uk

yes, but maturity was never my strong point.

I have been using FH since v2. despite the fact that my whole tree is pretty much brickwalled at the moment I still enjoy finding odd snippets of information and fleshing out the tree.

Some of the new features in v4 look really interesting. Wish I could see a screenshot of the new focus window and reworked property box....

How about it, Simon Orde? Tease us with a screenshot....

The reworked Property Box is of particular interest to me as I am hoping that resizing will make it easier to read as I have difficulty reading fonts below a certain size. Whilst I can increase to font size in the Records Window to a comfortable size this is impossible in the Property Box.

Simon,

Are you any closer to giving us a release date?

Thanks,
Sue

V4 is in manufacturing, which means the CDs are being made and the boxes printed, so baring some disaster, the boxes should be shipping from the end of April.

Margaret - the fonts for the property box are selectable.

If v4 is 'in Manufacturing' surely the code must be finalised. Can it not be released as a download now for those of us who plan to purchase the upgrade that way?

Jane,
By selectable do you mean that I will be able to set the font for the Property Dialogue at something like 12 point? I have the font for the Records Window set at Tahoma 12 point which is just right but I find the present size of font in the Propery Dialogue rather small.

Yes I think you'll find you can have various font sizes from very small up to very large (over 20).
