Re: Liverpool Electoral Register - 1939/1940
If you want the definitive answer wade your way through https://www.bl.uk/voices-of-science/britishlibrary/~/media/subjects%20images/government%20publications/pdfs/parliamentaryconstituencies.pdf :) There should be a code by each name giving the reason why they qualified to vote . From 1928 these we...

Re: Improving Accessibility of Commonly Requested Help
Mike, that gives a good instance as to how to fall at the first hurdle. :) I was unaware that the title needed to fit the sidebar and now that I know I can't find any reference to the number of characters allowed in either the Contribute your Knowledge item or the DokuWiki article about the Sidebar....

Re: Improving Accessibility of Commonly Requested Help
To me it is just a slight change - how about Contributing to the FHUG Knowledge BaseContribute Your Knowledge specifically says it relates to the Knowledge Base in each of its first three paragraphs.
Can you suggest how it could make that point clearer. It is an important concept.

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window
I think that you have described the problem admirably - Calico Pie tends to move very slowly to implement any change. I am rather spoilt in the software that I use for constructing websites - there the owner listens to users requirements and regularly implements changes quickly, more often than not ...

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window
I would prefer something that works out of the box rather than have to introduce a workaround. One thing that has crossed my mind is that the Records Window is not a straightforward table but is one that is expandable to show additional lines for each entry, so the alternative line shading may be a ...

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window
Just to say that I agree that the Records Window could be improved to assist with following a record line on a large screen. Most tabulated output in other software (& web pages) does tend to have at least a contrasting colour or shade on alternate lines which helps but being able to click a nam...

Re: FHUG website slow
I have a couple of websites hosted by TSOhost which are working OK. TSOhost have posted a notice saying that there are problems with some websites and give the likely IP Addresses but as far as I can tell FHUG is not in that range. However they may not be aware that other IP addresses are affected s...

Re: Workhouses and Census's
Not sure if you have had a look at the website workhouses.org.uk as suggested earlier but there is a section on the workhouses in Norwich. Even better, there is a list of inmates for 1881 at http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Norwich/Norwich1881.shtml#Inmates EDIT: Have just found the 1861 census for the ...

I feel a bit bereft as I only have five and two of those are Lummis, the others being Collins, Frost and Godbold. By way of explanation both my parents had the surname of Lummis (their common ancestor was born in the 18th century). I do not know the name of my paternal grandfather as my father was i...

But I would add one more thing - wills may appoint not just executors but also trustees. I've not tried to record trustees as "witnesses" (in the FH sense) to probate events yet, but I forsee a potential issue if people can only be reported in one witness role per event???? Adrian, wouldn...

I have just looked on the GRO Index pages where you would normally order a certificate (https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/cert ... search.asp) and could only find Drusilla Tar Hawes listed in the last quarter of 1843 in Wangford. Where did you get the other details from?

Re: Problems with extended families in AS
I have been out most of the day and the topic has moved on. Whilst agreeing with Mike that you cannot annotate the adopted, step or birth relationship in FH via AS, you can do everything else. It is possible to add a new set of parents in AS in addition to those already recorded. So if you enter all ...

Re: Problems with extended families in AS
Sorry Mike, I don't really follow what you are saying about being a step-child. Although I realise that "step" can be added as a relationship in the Focus Window, I have never used this on re- marriage . That would be confusing as the children would be listed under both marriages and only ...

Re: Problems with extended families in AS
Such as when one of the existing parents needs a new spouse with existing children as step-children. So for these more complex families, enter the fundamental relationships in FH before using AS. Then you can set the step/adoptive/foster details and create new parents, etc, more easily. Mike, just ...

Not sure if this will be helpful but I believe that Lloyds Register may record deaths of seamen as well as ships lost. Unfortunately I don't have access to their records although I did find at https://hec.lrfoundation.org.uk/archive-library/casualty-returns that the Norwegian ship Thalatta was lost ...

Have you tried the Delete Witnesses for Role Plugin provided earlier in this thread? It worked for me so unless you had a different setup in TMG it should work for you. Please make a backup before running the Plugin just in case there are some unexpected results.

Re: Male child with just a surname on a Birth Certificate
As it is a copy from the GRO I think that I would phone the Registrars Office where the original registers are held to see if they would have a look at the register to check for any possible annotations. You may be lucky and get hold of a helpful person who would like to assist in establishing why a...

Re: Male child with just a surname on a Birth Certificate
Like Mike, I am always curious when the unusual turns up. Just a couple of thoughts that you may have already covered but maybe worth saying. 1) Was there a subsequent registration of the name? 2) Is the birth certificate an original or a certified copy and if the latter did it come from the Registr...
