Residence Date?
Hi all, I have a question, when entering a birth using DEA it creates a residence on the date of birth, but when entering it using Ancestral Sources it created a residence on the date registered. Which one is correct? Technically both in this case, but not always the case as you could move house bet...

Re: Building tree
Helen, I was originally trying to build a tree without adding anyone that I didn’t have a source for, so starting with my birth certificate and moving on from there. I got quite far, especially direct descendants but it fell apart a bit with the examples I gave I guess I’ll need to start looking int...

Re: Building tree
That was what I had been doing, but I was just wondering whether adding the parents and persons name was better that way you are always using an individual from the tree. I had started making my tree using templates and realised that when I added my marriage certificate witnesses, that all bridesmai...

Building tree
Quick question, although it probably has 100 different answers. What is the best/easiest way to build a templated tree? Is it best to use the DEA / AS to add the person or to have the person already in the tree? I ask as I often find that when I am inputting a marriage certificate that some of the p...

Re: DEA or AS citations
Thanks for that Mike, I made the changes in AS and they do mainly what I want,, I just wasn't sure about how the options read and your description made it more clear. What you said about DEA was what I thought was the case, I was just hoping I was missing something and the options were hidden away s...

DEA or AS citations
Hi All, I am still trying to decide between DEA or AS for entering my data into FH7, I have been working on a copy of my family project, which has all the information (dates and names etc) but I have removed all sources/citations. I notice when I use either a DEA or AS to enter a source/citation tha...

Re: Project Won't Open
Hi Mike There is no lost data as I had just backed up the file, so there is no issue there. I deleted using the More Tasks, Delete Project so not me for once  . Everything is back to normal: When I deleted the broken files using More Tasks/ Delete Project everything seemed to be there, they jus...

Project Won't Open
Hi All, This just happened to me tonight and wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of what happened. I had been trying out Ancestral Sources to see whether I was going to give it one last chance or keep with just FH7. After I had finished, and I deleted the FH/AS trial project file I trie...

Re: Easy Way to Split Tree in Half?
Mike who exactly was included in such a branch? All Relatives What happens if an ancestor of the chosen person was married to an ancestor of the chosen person's spouse? Can't answer that as it hasn't so far happened in my tree. I possibly have it in my side of the family but have never been able to ...

Re: Easy Way to Split Tree in Half?
Surely there should be a very easy way to do this. I am sure I asked about this before and it made me go back and look at FTM2019 (as I was sure there was an option for this) and sure enough pick the person, right click and pick export branch and you have what is being asked for. I suppose that this...

Re: What happens if I leave FH7?
Adrian I understand that FTM, FH or RM may all interpret GEDCOM differently, I was just a bit worried that tables, rich text etc would mess up an export and I could end up having to redo my tree (again), to make sure that everything transferred over fully. I just wanted to kind of future proof what ...

Re: What happens if I leave FH7?
Helen
This was my worry; I didn't want to back myself into a corner that if the worst happened (FH did a RM esq upgrade or worse still did a disappearing act) that I was going to spend another year trying to unravel what was a great tree but only in FH.

What happens if I leave FH7?
Hopefully a simple question and probably hypothetical, but I'll ask it anyway. If I were to leave/ be forced to leave FH7, how would the export look in another software package? By that I mean how would a source/citation look if it were entered using a DEA? I know that I could enter a few into a new...

Re: Exporting complete tree
Mike, You have misread my question. I have just had a few requests from relatives asking for some information and they use different software. It happens very rarely but when it has I have always had some problems with the export. Using your plug-in seems to have cured any issues. I tried it with my...

Re: Exporting complete tree
Export Gedcom File seem to do the trick, thanks Mike. I was just checking that there wasn't a 'best method' for inputting information before exporting a tree out of FH. I don't do it often, but anytime I did, it just never seemed to work the way I was hoping, but as I said Export Gedcom File seems ...

Exporting complete tree
Hi all,
I’ve never really been that successful when I export a tree to a relative who is using different genealogy software. My question is what is the best format to build the tree in, so that everything including all media is exported? Is it best to use Generic, DEA or Ancestral Sources.
William

Re: A plea for Updated V7 Video Tutorials Please please…please
I think the problem here is that there is no exact way to enter data into FH and no one wants to say “This is how to do it” for fear that others tell them they are wrong, even though they won’t say how it should be done after saying it’s wrong. Just in case someone tells them they are also wrong. I ...

Re: Media
Thanks Neil,
I never looked at that part as the up arrow was greyed out and the photo I wanted to use was at the top of the list, so no need to move up. I never thought that the up arrow was there to move the photo's left to right at the top of the Focus Window.
Lesson learnt

Quick question, how do you select what photo is shown in the Focus Window. I just added a second photo of my grandsons to the media window and can't find a way to make it the photo that appears as the main photo in the Focus Window.1st photo when he was born and 2nd photo when he was two years old a...

Re: Backup - One Drive
I imagine your master Project copy and Document folder backup are both on the same C drive in the same PC. So common risks such as a disk crash, PC failure, fire, flood, theft, lightning strike, etc, will eliminate both those copies. After all of the above my cloud back up will still give me 2 copi...

Re: Backup - One Drive
Surely, Master copy, backup in Document folder, Onedrive copy of Master copy and Onedrive copy of Backup is 1-2-3-4 copies and you will probably have a few other Backups in your Document folder and hence Onedrive as well. I have only had 2 catastrophic hard drive failures in my many years using PC's...

Re: Backup - One Drive
Silly question, but is your Document folder not backing up to Onedrive? My laptop backs up/mirrors my Document folder to Onedrive so therefor I don't have to back anything up to Onedrive I just have to save my files to the Document folder (basically where all programs save there files) and it is als...

Not sure it's as easy as you make out, but I will go with you on it.
