Weird Problem with FH and Dropbox
I'm certainly no expert in such matters, and I don't use Dropbox, and I expect others will doubtless put us right in due course. But I suspect that now (having moved to My Documents) some of your total pathname lengths are too big. It certainly seems that it is the three longest filenames in your ...

Edit Multimedia Key words
I may be wrong, but I don't think FH keeps a list of Keywords anywhere, but just creates the list from all the keywords used in the currently open GEDCOM file. I guess that if you delete the unwanted keywords from all the records to which they are attached, those keywords will then disappear from t...

Narrative report - multimedia sources
I too think there may be a problem, or perhaps an undocumented limitation of FH (4.0.2). I have tried to generate a standard Multimedia Report for 120 of my 500+ census images. Only the first 90 images were included in the report - the last 30 pages contained only the report text (same when saved as...

Property box customisation (Censuses)
Thee are other fields which could be attached to a Census entry, such as Age and Note, and there could be linked records such as Source and Note. I guess this is why FH shouldn't delete a Census entry just because some of its fields have been blanked. Actually I decided to add the Census Age to my...

Property box customisation (Censuses)
I suspect that this unfortunate problem may be the reason for this warning in the Help file: 'Not all possible data references are permitted. You cannot use data references for composite items which have no data of their own, and hence cannot be edited. And you cannot use data references which refer...

Reset unmarried couple to default
This looks to me like another bug affecting the tab of the Individual property box.
As a workaround, you can reset the Status using the All tab of the property box (or in the Records window). But I wonder if you would prefer simply to delete the now redundant Family record?

Consolidate lists, flags and keywords
As mentioned briefly elsewhere ( http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=forum&board=wishlist2&op=display&num=4181 ) the Source record already has additional fields and sub-fields in FH. These are Data, Events Recorded, Date Period, and Place; (it is this Place field that doesn'...

Remarriage Boxes
When I try Simon's suggestion, I find it does indeed change the order of the marriage boxes in the diagram, but not which family is in the Main box rather than the Remarriage box. You can hide a Remarriage box (and thus any descendants) but if you hide the Main marriage box you lose the 'main' Indiv...

Consolidate lists, flags and keywords
I agree with Dave's comments above (as well as with Jane's on 02/12/09). For completeness I suppose one could also add Marriage Status into the discussion. As Chris said above about Source Type, a Family can really only have one current Marriage Status, but can belong to any number of Named Lists. ...

Remarriage Boxes
Derek, Sorry I cannot suggest any Text-Scheme tweaks which might help, but ... I find that if I start with 'Spouses in own box' and hide the spouse boxes I don't want, I can then switch to 'One box per marriage'. Rather than select and hide individual spouse boxes each time, you could use a query, ...

Bulk Deletion of Census Event Note field
Thanks for the reminder about Fact Queries, Jane. Yes, you can delete multiple fields using a Fact Query, e.g. with the following columns: http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/2009-12-05_195955.png and the following Rows filter: http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/2009-12-05_200129.png Th...

Bulk Deletion of Census Event Note field
The use of Queries to delete multiple fields (and even to delete multiple records!) is in fact mentioned at the end of Chapter 13 of Getting the Most From Family Historian 4. Obviously you have to check carefully what you are about to delete, and must always backup first.

Bulk Deletion of Census Event Note field
I think the easiest way to delete all occurences of a particular field is to use a Query; this has worked since version 2 of FH (and I'm sure Jane has posted this advice before). As always, be sure to backup your file first! You need a really simple Custom Query which by default will be for Individu...

Marriage date with no spouse not saved
I entered some nonsense data for the Sample Project via the Facts-tab method I outlined above: http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/2009-12-04_155333.jpg and saved the GEDCOM file which now contains the following for the new one-spouse family: 0 @F31@ FAM 1 MARR 2 DATE 1 APR 2001 2 PLAC nowhere...

Marriage date with no spouse not saved
That's certainly odd. My Individual Property Box doesn't display any marriage fields unless there is a spouse. On the Main tab, I have to click on Add Spouse/Partner first, which creates a new Individual record '[unnamed person]' and a corresponding Family record in which date, place, etc. are sto...

Presumably there's a misprint on page 37 of 'THE GEDCOM STANDARD - DRAFT Release 5.5.1' [ged551-5.pdf] where I can see no mention of a > as a subordinate of the MULTIMEDIA_LINK. Or is there a different downloadable document which is more complete?

Consolidate lists, flags and keywords
I'm sure Nick is probably correct that, logically, Flags for Individuals and Keywords for Multimedia could be implemented by the List mechanism. However, this would deprive interested users of the ability to view or edit Flags or Keywords directly in the GEDCOM file, since they would no longer appe...

Yes, I agreed with your suggestion about the use of the TYPE tag as subordinate to the MARR tag. But your latest quote from the GEDCOM Standard refers to those Facts (typically Custom Facts) where the TYPE tag has to be used to define the Fact itself, rather than provide an additional description. ...

The only problem I have with the 'Select File' dialog is that when you opt for a new file it inserts an absolute address, rather than a relative address. This can obviously be fixed with the 'Work with External File Links' dialog, but it would be better for FH to be consistent. I think the same pr...

The GEDCOM 5.5 standard certainly envisaged this use of the TYPE tag as a subordinate of the MARR tag: The MARR tag could be subordinated with a TYPE tag and EVENT_DESCRIPTOR value of Common Law. Other possible descriptor values might include 'Childbirth%unmarried,' 'Common Law,' or 'Tribal Custom,'...

I agree with Jane on this. Given that the Individual record is the fundamental building block of any tree, it makes sense for FH to have its present Flag functionality which applies only to Individuals. The use of Keywords to facilitate filtering of multimedia is also a useful new facility in versi...
