Re: Census

The pilcrow sign ¶ represents a newline character.
It is often seen in text editors such as Microsoft Word to show where a newline appears, but in Word its display can be switched on and off.
The ¶ will not be visible in the FH reports, but the following text will start on a new line.

Re: Residence date range help

... a Date Period BTW <date> AND <date> ... We're into personal preferences - or perhaps personal understandings - here. For whatever reason, I've always interpreted "BTW <date> AND <date>" to be most appropriate to a single-day (or nearly so) event occurring between those 2 events. It's ...

Re: Residence date range help

Instead of a Date Range FRM <date> TO <date> you can use a Date Period BTW <date> AND <date> Then the sentence would say "Between <date> and <date> he lived...". The dates can be just years if you wish. i.e. On particular dates between those two dates, he lived at the address. That fits th...

Re: Property rental - Custom fact?

You don't necessarily need to create a custom fact for every document you discover. Review the rental data and decide what facts it supplies. Does it identify an address and date where the person lived? If so then use a Residence fact. The Source Citation transcript Text From Source can include rent...

Why not experiment with the Family Historian Sample Project?

If he really has full backups then simply restore them. As Jane says, a possible explanation is that he has changed the File ...

With an unusual surname like that it may be transcribed wrongly.
His birth may have been registered late in Q1 1865.

Re: Oddity on Descendants Left to Right chart...

It is the Spouse/Partner Family links that matter, not the Marriage event facts.
i.e.
The number of Spouse tab entries in the Property Box, Main tab.
The number of Spouse family items in the Property Box, All tab.

The number of Marriage event facts does not matter.

Re: Record window anomaly

John, I think you have overlooked Lorna's correction to my posting and some of the later discussions. You can override the left-right sort precedence by clicking column headings in reverse of desired sort order. However, those sort precedence rules only apply when you change the primary sort column....

Instead of splitting out hundreds of different pages, you can do as I suggested.
Link the Research Note to the lumped Source record and add the Page numbers as text alongside.

Re: Linking to *citation* in Research Note?

In short, it is not possible because links can only be made to records (Individuals, Families, Sources, etc.) and Citations are not records but simply a component field. The best you can do is describe the specific Citation in terms of its associations to a Source record and whatever it is cited aga...

Re: Customising Research Notes - Records Window

There is a keyboard shortcut for the View > Record Links... command (as there is for most commands).
It is ALT + V + L i.e. the underlined letters in the menu command preceded by the ALT key.

The Wish List requests similar quick methods.

Re: Customising Research Notes - Records Window

Ah! The links are from an Individual record to a Research Note record. It is not possible to identify those links in the columns of the Research Note tab. To discover such links, you must use the View > Record Links... command or the Where Used Record Links plugin. See the FHUG Knowledge Base Findin...

Re: Record window anomaly

I would expect a Wish List item to request that sorting of all multiple row & column lists be fully consistent.
Then all Records Window tabs, Query & Plugin Result Sets, Named Lists, etc, would all behave similarly.
How CP achieve that is their challenge.

Yes Lorna, you may be correct. I'd forgotten about that wrinkle!

That is another difference compared with Query Result Sets which have no such memory.

This is another unfortunate example of inconsistencies in related functions in FH.

Re: Record window anomaly

The column sort rules for the Records Window and Query Result Sets are not defined anywhere in the Help. Furthermore, they are not consistent with each other. In the Records Window, the rows can be sorted primarily on any column by clicking its header. If that column has identical row values the row...
