Addresses - Suggestion for Best Practice
When one addresses a letter in UK (other places differ) it is usual to use 'House Name/Number' followed by Street, followed by Placename. This works well for the postman but not necessarily for us when entering them into FH. If I wanted to enter '39 Zanzibar Street' as an address, predictive text st...

Re: Changing place names
Mike, Perhaps I'm being picky, but when you open a context window (by right clicking), one of the more common Windows standards is to have the 'Delete/Rename' function shown as an option, where this is appropriate. Surely when looking at a list of places, the same Delete/Rename could have been made ...

Re: Changing place names
I've come to this post a bit late, and can only agree with Original Poster, Roger! Use and editing of placenames needs some serious work doing on it. Being new to FH, I was going through the process of Geocoding all the places in my tree. When I came across a typo in one of the places, but when I tr...

Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
Sorry for delay in reporting back, but had mains off this morning! (still suffering Internet withdrawal symptoms) First, the plugin with no help. This was the your own 'Re-arrange Address and Place'. However I tried again just now, and am happy to report that Help did open up this time, so might giv...

Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
Mike, I'll fire up my PC in morning and let you know the plugin I was referring to. I'll also download your attachment at the same time. I'm not concerned about corruption at present, as I still have FTM as my main program. I won't switch fully to FH until I have a better understanding of how it wor...

Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
Mike, Thanks for the explanation. I'm not too concerned about the note problem, which as you say can be fixed by a plugin. I'm more concerned about the Address being placed as a note. Is there a 'simple' way to move these to an address field. I did look at a plugin to tidy up places, but to be hones...

Re: Exporting Family Historian GEDCOMs
Mike, To be honest, I've never noticed that! I do know that with FTM, when you have multiple facts, one needs to be set to 'preferred'. I have always assumed that this was to choose which one was displayed in the right hand panel, which could only show one at a time. Why that should affect the Gedco...

Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
Mike, Teach me not to read the instruction! To date I have always exported Gedcom using FTM16 (Default Setting) & ANSI, and had never experienced any difficulties with Tribalpage import, so stuck with what I knew worked. However, following your comments, I exported using Other-ANSI and found Occ...

Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
David, For a long time, I had the fact properties for Occupation in FTM2012, set as date/place/description, and left place field blank and used description field when entering an Occupation, which could be the root cause of my problem. As an experiment, I have changed the properties to description o...

Re: Exporting Family Historian GEDCOMs
Mike, I have been using TP for quite a while, and upload my Gedcom (from FTM2012) with no problems. I do not understand your comment about local notes. (Have yet to try from FH) If you visit my TP (http://www.loney.tribalpages.com), goto William Loney (1891-1971), and you'll see extensive notes in a...

Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
Thanks Mike, I quite like a technical challenge, so that shouldn't be a concern. I did start to read the posts you mentioned, but they seem more tuned to going the other way, so user could take advantage of hints in Ancestry, but I'll take another look. As I said, it is early days with FH (only boug...

Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
What is best way to prepare FTM2012 or its exported Gedcom, so the Gedcom import into FH goes smoother. As a newbie to FH, I exported my Tree (12000+) from FTM2012 as a Gedcom and imported it to FH6. I realised it wouldn't be that simple and with a current Import Log File of 200+ pages - (Mainly INF...
