Sources and citation in fh7
Please could someone help me with source and citation entry. If It cannot be sorted out for my old brain I will need to revert to fh6. If necessary I will pay for help from Mike or Jane. I have just found a new 1851 census entry for one of my husband's family. I enter the Event and then choose my 18...

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
I am still hopelessly lost with this. The changes suggested in this thread have already been made, some time ago. The citation window opens, often showing a specific citation note. If I delete or change that note does it edit the previous instances too or only the new one? I have begun to put import...

Re: New Research Note Question
May be not relevant but there are some computers which were not recommended for the free W10 upgrade due to components being incompatible.
The lists are on the MS site.
I had to replace our brilliant Sony W7 stand alone desk top. And take out a new sub to go on using MS Office.

Re: Importing raw DNA data from Ancestry
I may have got this wrong. But the expression "Ancestry DNA data" could mean a couple of different things. Ancestry tested my DNA. The DNA results are sent to people who have been tested who are able to download them in a plain text file which has a reference number and should be copied an...

Re: Step sister
I have a similar family group way back in my tree, although in my case the couple (both widowed and with children by the previous spouse) did have a third group of children together. As two of the unrelated descendants married each other, fh software has no problem in showing their relationship to m...

Re: source records in a new project
I was advised when starting a new Project but wanting the sources from an existing project, to copy the existing Project, with a new name and then delete all the people in the copy. One does this by adding all but one of the people to a named list and then deleting all the people in that Named List.

When I check for updates, (using the Help menu) it tells me that 7.0.0. which I am using is the latest.

Re: Additional Untitled Sources
I think part of the trouble for me at least is the ambiguity over the word "citation". A source record as a whole can be attached to a fact and then it becomes a citation? So yes, I did accept the of option of a prepared citation as I wrongly thought it meant an existing source. Thank you ...

Re: Report of all individuals with similar Last Name
I am no expert, but I do this using the fh search binoculars in the main toolbar. One may need several search runs through the data to find the various spellings or part spellings, so after each run I add the result set to a named list. If one then runs a query to find everyone on that named list, i...

Re: Additional Untitled Sources
But there is something else annoying Lorna. If one chooses to add an existing source, in v6 one got the source and could write or paste in text for that particular citation. Using the copy source button, one could then paste it in to further people complete with that citation. In Version 7 using an ...

Additional Untitled Sources
I realise I have spent so long drafting this that it is supper time in UK. It can wait till tomorrow or Monday for an answer. I have somehow acquired three untitled sources. I would like to know how I accidentally created them to avoid creating yet more. Each is cited only once. If one clicks the va...

The opening of a closed record was not my problem. It was the cropping of the image which left out part of the surname note on the opposite page.

Re: 1939 Register
I believe it is more complicated than that. The Register was used as the basis for NHS registration and it seems that the original belongs to the NHS archive. An overseas academic contact of mine was trying to trace a relative, who died in the war and was unable to read her married name which was cu...

Thank you indeed. Without you Mike, three years ago I would have failed yet again to get to grips with and use fh. Re: Military history fact set - FH7
Evelyn, as Helen said earlier, all Fact Sets are compatible with both FH V6 and V7. It is simply that the Downloads in the FHUG KB have not yet been updated to say they are FH V7 compatible. There is a LOT to update there and only a few people doing it, so more volunteers would be welcome. Is this ...

Re: Military history fact set - FH7
I am curious why a fact from v6 might not work in fh7? I have quite a jumble of militry facts but have been using Unit and Service number indiscriminately in the two versions fh 6 and now in fh7. I am trying to identify all men in a Royal Artillery Brigade on the census of 1911 and find their servic...

I do the opposite. I keep several projects for my ancestors. And I similarly have separate projects for my academic (place study) research too. Anyone left over, goes in a miscellaneous project. I sometimes cross reference but mostly I remember who is where. And I have a spiral bound exercise book (...

Re: Reverting to fh 6.
I am not doing massive data entry today but will post here again when I do. The main extra key strokes relate to citations. I have the Citation pane open and the open Citation Window on top of it just duplicates that and doesnt need closing? I have just experimented and it looks as if it is unnecess...

Reverting to fh 6.
I deal with large databases of families who are not known to me. I have made frequent use of the instant tree diagram feature. This is no longer instant. One is required to make a choice and OKay. Is there a way to make fh7 behave like version 6? I would like to eliminate some of these extra clicks ...

In order to help you, I have just used the plug in to export a family tree as a ged com and have ope...
