Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

Yes, I agree with all you said and even pointed out the ability to copy the built-in RM templates. However, I doubt the average RM user, including myself, had the foresight to not use the built-in RM templates when getting started. Those people may have hundreds of sources with associated citation d...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

How does the following sound? Proposal Allow citation level fields to be used in the Bibliography format of Source Templates. This would help users migrating from other products, but also new users who choose to adopt some level of 'lumping' when creating sources but want a more granular 'bibliogra...

Re: Switching tips? (RM->FH)

RootsMagic users may not be familiar with the difference between EVENTS and ATTRIBUTES as they are defined in GEDCOM and in FH. There is a specific list of EVENT tags defined in GEDCOM. Included are births, deaths, marriages, census, burials, etc. There is also a specific list of ATTRIBUTE tags incl...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums

As a fairly new FH customer, I would make one suggestion that might help new users considerably. Quite often, new customers, or those who are just testing the waters, are directed to FHUG as a good resource, which it is. But If someone starts at the Forum home page, it is probably going to be somewh...

Re: Switching tips? (RM->FH)

I have already done more than one port of my RM7 data to FH7 and I have not made the final port yet. But with these test ports, I have spent quite a bit of time getting familiar with the FH7 user interface. In the process, I found that FH7 helped me locate areas where my RM data needed attention. If...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

I appreciate all of the insights and adding a date at the source is the obvious solution. Without looking at every instance in my database, I imagine it will address them all adequately. I don't use them very often. It becomes a work flow adjustment which is "do-able" but it also requires a memory w...

Re: Switching tips? (RM->FH)

I'm working on an import/transition from RM7 to FH7. Most things here apply to RM8/9 as well. All in all, it is amazing how well my RM data transferred with the FH7 direct import. More importantly, FH7 provides a framework where the imported RM data can be utilized as it is. However, that does not m...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

I apologize for splitting my response over two postings... I would not include an access date in the bibliography for a parish register. Although they may appear on a web page, the data is fairly static. Many people cite on-line family trees in various forms. Without debating how good a source that ...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

Correct, I was using the equivalent of {access_date:YEAR} in some bibliographic entries. I can't imagine how software would generate a range of access years. That would involve some very sophisticated analysis of the citations included in the document. Certainly this "need" would not apply to ALL bi...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

My background is RootsMagic and I'm a lumper. I'm getting familiar with FH, but I've run into this issue with citation fields in bibliographies, in particular, an "access date." There is a rational reason to at least allow an "access date" in bibliographies when dealing with sources from the web. Th...
