Thank you, "tatewise"; First; I don't want to hijack this thread. So; I will start another of this more specific topic and copy the following, if you feel this would be better. I'm trying to auto-generate a source title that matches my existing filing scheme based upon the contents of what I enter i...

Re: Templates, titles, and footnotes
Yes. Derek's Video Group has just put up a very nice intro to using and making templates. You may want to start there. As a note... If you've had some experience with something like RootsMagic templates, you'll find that the FH7 ones are quite similar. The big exception I discovered is that Lumpers ...

"tatewise" regarding 21739|Source Template Definition and Generic Type : I am also addressing a similar issue. I am trying to construct a "Record Title Format" containing a date string. My apologies,"tatewise".
I'm just not used to using the forums and must have missed doing that.
I'll try to be more diligent in setting the checkbox, but it may take a short while to always remember.

Re: Clarification Requested re: Source Driven Data Entry
I appreciate the several posted replies. I'd watched the noted video, but was mulling over the "why" of associating the media with the source and not associating a source with the media. I also received a response that clarified that the "source Driven Data Entry" paradigm always attaches the image ...

Template Design Preview
I've been attempting to design my own templates v7.0.19 I'm finding that envisioning the resulting citation output is a real issue. One can't actually see a "trial" output without exporting the template to a project and entering some test data. Making revisions, once one sees the result, is time-con...

Thank you for your response, "tatewise".
I thought it might be a good feature request, but (being a newbie to FH7) I'm treading carefully.
Will go over to the appropriate section and ender it.

Re: What template fields are populated by Ancestral Sources?
Thank you, Nick. That is exactly what I wanted to know. I'm making a template to capture the BMD records from the French Departmental Archives and want to able to use it with AS, so I meed to use the AS set of transferable fields.

Re: Using Lumped Source Splitter v1.2 on RM9 Imported Sources
Harold; That seems to take care of "transferring" the contained data between two sources based upon identically structured templates. If one moves all the detail fields into the main source, then the target template structure is not the same. I'm not sure if that would work. Perhaps someone can spea...

What template fields are populated by Ancestral Sources?
It appears that for each of the fact types covered by Ancestral Sources, there is a set of predefined field-names that can be automatically entered in template. While the predefined setup of AS does imply that certain field-name data is transferred, It may not be a full list. Is there a full list of...

Re: Using Lumped Source Splitter v1.2 on RM9 Imported Sources
Mark, with respect to: ... you may find that a reworking of the design may be necessary to get the most out of FH, ... Reworking populated Templated Sources is not easy... Is there somewhere I could read up on this topic? In RootsMagic it was difficult; in fact downright dangerous to impossible. I'd...

Re: Using Lumped Source Splitter v1.2 on RM9 Imported Sources
Thanks for the reply, Mark. Yes; the template has a lot of fields. That is because it was developed to handle just about any type of websites reference and turn out an Evidence Explained style of citation. Some fields are only used for "unusual" websites. The template itself leverages a lot of Roots...

Clarification Requested re: Source Driven Data Entry
I'm trying to set myself up for doing "Source Driven Data Entry". If I understand the principle; one can document all ones media and then decide what fact etc. that media supports. After poking around FH7, I note that a citation can have attached media and media can also have an attached citation. Q...

Re: FH7 : Using Evidence Explained Style
I read this thread with great interest. Many of the comments on the struggles of other refugees from RootsMagic resonated strongly with me. I'd call myself a moderate lumper. In RootsMagic, I wrote all my own templates, so it was easy to closely follow the EE-style. My level of lumping was based on ...

Re: Splitting imported place names
Mike; I think I can figure this out now. However; here's more detail on what I'm up against... If one looks at how various geocoding databases specify a French location, they don't seem to agree upon the number of elements to use. RM9 consults one that uses, "Bernes-sur-Oise, Île-deFrance, France", ...

How does one split lumped sources after an RM9 direct import
I've imported my RM9 database to FH7, but my sources need to be split to conform to the paradigm that FH7 and associated tools tend to use. I understand that the current plugin, "Lumped Source Splitter v1.2", was not meant to handle direct imports. I'm sure there will be an update at some point, but...

Re: Splitting imported place names
My apologies. I found the Work with data > Places shows The place broken up into columns, while the Maps displays it as one column. So; the "Rearrange Address and Place Parts" v1.7 plugin should work. I must be doing something wrong. FH7 obviously has a steeper learning curve than I thought.
