Hiding personal info in a citation template
Re: Personal Correspondence template of the Advanced Collection I note that this template from Calico Pie does not allow for selectively hiding personal address info and substituting a phrase like, "Address for personal use only", in report citations. The method that FH7 uses to hide info in reports...

Aha! So they are not in the documentation noted.
Thank you. I was pulling my hair out wondering what was happening.
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am still finding my way...

Re: Syntax for 'Place Formats', 'Short' field?
Unfortunately; Im still having issues in getting the address from the citation portion of a template and printing it as part of a citation. I know that I have some work to do to "tighten up the following Footnote template code, but I need to figure this out before that. {Year} census of {=TextPart( ...

"ColeValleyGirl";
Thank you.
So they are "Text" fields? Good to know. I'll try it.
The FH7 template definition had me totally confused, as it shows the type as "Address". (see below)

Re: Syntax for 'Place Formats', 'Short' field?
"tatewise"; I thought I'd mention in this thread that I looked at, Understanding Data References, https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help/fh7/hh_start.htm#understandingdatareferences.html It was helpful, But I note that the section, DATA REFERENCES AND METAFIELDS, has a table of 3-letter type prefix...

Thanks, "tatewise";
It's obvious that I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around forming some of the function calls.
I'll reread the material yet again and look for some further examples.

Syntax for 'Place Formats', 'Short' field?
What is the syntax needed to use the "Place Formats", "Short" field, to get the first part of the place-name contained in a template meta-field called {Commune}? I believe one uses the TEXTPART function.
I've tried it various ways, but FH7 complains that the syntax is incorrect.

Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7
Sarah;
Thanks for the suggestions.
Must admit that I'm hesitant about ORA, since access to French Departmental records is VERY strange/convoluted and takes a bit of thought to document.

Yes, "Valkrider";
I understand what you mean. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.
For me; the opportunity for splitting would likely be with physical items I hold in my local archives.

Thank you, so much, everyone. The feedback was incredibly useful. In retrospect, I realize it was a bit of a general post. Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7
Colin; I watched the video again and see what it does. However; when Auto Source Citation is used, does it copy the base citation as a completely new instance or does it just use pointers to the existing one. Regarding the latter; when one changes the source from within one person, do all occurrence...

Colin;
I did take a brief look at Auto Source Citation, but didn't pursue it further as I hadn't quite figured out some the more basic issues I had with citations. What specific need was it meant to address?

Re: Updating to Family Historian 7.0.19 on Mac + Parallels
Mark; The second part of my question is, looking to a future replacement, is anyone using FH with Parallels 18 on the new Apple M1 or M2 chips, to run Windows 11 ARM? As I am unsure if FH will run smoothly under windows arm? I run Parallels 18 and Windows 11 (ARM) on a Mac mini M1. FH7 is VERY stabl...

Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7
Below are just some of the current things that confuse me (in no particular order) on coming from RM9 and an Evidence Explained environment. I could use some help with them, if someone cares to chime in. 1) RootsMagic has the concept of “copying and pasting” a source, or alternatively, “reusing” one...

Re: Does FH7 have a way of replacing characters in a text string?
Thanks for the explanation, Mike.
With all the places to attach media, one wants to ask before going too far.
I just happen to find it easier to find image files, when the media filename matches the source name.
But I do understand what you mean.

Mike;
I'm looking forward to trying it when you feel the plugin is ready.
Perhaps Bing it will do a better job than the default geocoder.

Re: Does FH7 have a way of replacing characters in a text string?
Mike; I'm not sure where you're going with the questions, so I'll just do my best to answer blindly. How are you intending to use the file that has that filename? > I want it to show in reports and possibly on a webpage. Is it a file that already exists or one you are creating? > The file exists. Thanks, Mike.
I think I understand the approach.
Working in the single screen makes cutting and pasting a bit easier.

Re: Does FH7 have a way of replacing characters in a text string?
Mike;
I already have files in an external structure that have a certain filename.
As they are a 1:1 match for Splitter sources, I wanted to generate the same name within FH7.
