Re: Use of <whole record> and Name source citations
Helen; Ah. I don't use narrative reports -- if I want to write somebody's life story, I'll write it as a blog entry. If I want to write a proof statement, I'll write it in Word (and save it as a PDF to to attach to the relevant person or assertion. The closest I come to publishing a report looks lik...

Re: Use of <whole record> and Name source citations
Helen; I'm rewriting my response, because the site is not consistently posting my answers. As noted; I want to review all the evidence, but don't believe that complex evidentiary discussions should be presented in the narrative report. It can easily created a "can't see the forest for the trees" sce...

Re: Use of <whole record> and Name source citations
Sarah; I tend to only attach a citation when it directly supports a fact/event. Initially, I just treat the remainder as "clues". I still keep the remaining material in my notes, though. There might not be direct evidence and I may need to draw on them to write a proof argument. I then would cite th...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
Thanks, Helen.
I saw that there was an area, but wasn't sure if any vetting was required prior to uploading.
Once I have a well-tested set with proper documentation, I'll upload them.
The documentation is important, because there is a tiny bit of planning/setup required.

Re: Use of whole record and name source citations
Sarah; Just my thoughts on the topic... The level at which one cites would, I think, depend upon the assertion one is trying to support. If one is citing evidence that a person had a certain name, citing at the person level might be appropriate. However; if one is supporting a specific fact or event...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
I've now a fully working EE-Style citation template for citing "Personal Correspondence" for any country. It was needed, as the FH7 Advanced templates did not implement any privacy features for mailing and email addresses. This template is perhaps one of the most complex EE-Style templates to write,...

Re: Concatenating repository address subfields
It's getting easier to construct the functions I need for my templates. The following code snippet creates a full mailing address from the address defined in a repository and may be valuable to others. One would just need to substitute for the repository designation, "RECIPIENTS_ORG", and make sure ...

Re: Concatenating repository address subfields
***No answer required***
Seems there is no reason that the =Text function can't be used.
Will double-check my code. Likely finger problems.

Concatenating repository address subfields
I have no issues in getting access to the fields content of the address or address subtags of a repository. However; I would like to know if there is a simple way of creating a string that includes the comma-separated address and up to the 7 possible address subtags that effectively form a mailing l...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
"sbell95"; Thanks for your kind words. Happy you find my journey interesting and hope that it suggests possibilities for your own work. It wouldn't be possible without the valuable input of the FH7 user-community. With a bit of ingenuity and persistence in template design, Family Historian appears t...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
Got it! I was overthinking the issue. The following snippet does the job nicely and can be tweaked to get just the syntax required per the EE-style. It senses if "#PRIVATE_ADDRESSES" is present in the notes field of a repository and sets the returned text to "Street Address for private use"; otherwi...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
I'm having good success with selecting what to print based upon the content of the note field in the repository record. The following construct seems to work quite well to select between to strings; {=TextIf(ContainsText(%SOUR.~RP-REPOSITORY>NOTE2%,"#PRIVATE_ADDRESSES"),"Street Address for private u...

Re: Difference between Address List and Repository Address
Yes; I was aware of it, but was being cautious. I wasn't sure if a template could select it from a list as it can with the main place name. Nevertheless; I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the suggestion, Mike.

Re: Difference between Address List and Repository Address
I switched to the London VPN server and the issues "seem" to have gone away. I was then able to find and read the KB article you mentioned. I've always used the "Distinct Places and Addresses" approach. It may be a French thing, but it's difficult enough to get accurate geolocations for a commune wi...

Thanks for the info, Mike. I'll have to read that reference later.
I've no problems accessing the forums, but the Knowledge base has started to give me access issues again.

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
I had a look at what I could actually do with the Repository structure to see if I could solve my issue. Using the hashtag, #PRIVATE_ADDRESSES, in the Notes field of the repository should enable a template to sense whether to switch from showing the address data to showing a redaction message. I don...

Re: Difference between Address List and Repository Address
I read over an old post by PeterR on the topic; "Correct usage of 'Place' and 'Address'" at https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6658#p29125 . So; I thought that I should confirm my current practise regarding addresses. In other programs, I have been used to using the Address that are assoc...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
Thank you, Mike. I will include a "Privacy" field in the repository and logic in the template such that the "redaction" text will be used only when the custom field is defined and has a value. If I'm not mistaken, such custom fields are referenced in a way that returns a null value, and not generate...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
Mike; The specific template is, "Personal Correspondence" in the "Advanced" collection. Both the "Bibliography Format" and the "Footnote Format" of that template use the metafield "{Contact_Information}". The template does not define any address or place fields, but uses text instead. {Contact_Infor...

Re: Including a personal file-system reference in a citation
Mike; Mia culpa . When I see the word "Query", I tend to think and type "SQL Query". Old habits die hard. I've already included a {File_Ref} meta-field in my imported RM9 templates (and will do so in new ones) so that it is specific to a particular citation instance (whether Lumper or Splitter). Wha...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
Mike got exactly what I was trying to achieve. By way of explanation... The Evidence Explained (EE) correspondence template in FH7 seems to have avoided selectively hiding individuals address data. This is something that is definitely not per the EE book, as Shown Mills is VERY particular about sele...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template
Adrian; This topic is one that will be dear to the hearts of EE-Style followers and those who post their reports online. I wonder if one can set a field/flag somewhere in FH7 that templates could globally "see" and use in their logic. Perhaps FH7 already has that. If I really had to fudge it, I'm su...

Nick;
It looks good! You've been busy.
The example you provided is a great one to illustrate the capability.
Believe me; if AS saves me time, I'll be using it.
I've decided to re-enter my RM9 data, because there are things that are better done a certain way in FH7.

Re: Including a personal file-system reference in a citation
Just an update... I see that when I drag and drop an image file into the media tab of a citation and associate it with the citation (not the source), it takes my filename as the "Title" of the image. The "Record Detail - Multimedia" report does some of what I want, but of course doesn't show the ass...

Including a personal file-system reference in a citation
I have a set of templates that I'm converting from the imported RM9 version to FH7 style. In the old templates I included a file for the filename associated with image for the record being cited. I flagged it in the template code, so that it didn't print when the RM9 "private" checkbox was set in th...
