Re: Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
Is there a way that the generated Pop. Register can import into FH as a Pop. Register fact instead of a Census fact (see below). I'm not sure if I did something wrong, or if it is not possible, because it is using the Census template. Hmmm. Odly, I just tried it with a different template I made for ...

Re: Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
I understand what you're saying, Nick. I like the idea of recording it all and then changing the residence fact. It goes along with what Tatewise was saying in the the source is in effect for 1860, not 1850 since all the information has been entered. I have made template for 1850-1860, but can't fig...

Re: Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
I think the one thing this does better than a typical census is that it not only gives a snapshot of who was here at a particular moment, but it also tells the story of when & where that person came from or went to (other than death) ;) . To show this more clearly: Imagine a standard Census showing ...

Re: Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
I just want to bat around a few ideas here. The Population Register book was started every 10 to 20 years. The book would be used from, for e.g. 1850-1860. So, on January 1st of 1850, the " census " was conducted and every house had the inhabitants of each house listed in the register on one page. T...

Re: Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
Thanks Nick,
I think you have put me a good path to get me started. It is making more sense now. I'll play around and get a better feel for what's under the hood.
Thanks again!

Re: Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
Here is a photo of the register, and a translation on a spreadsheet to help clarify. The strike-out you see is what they did when a person left or died. I have never attempted to make a new template in AS, but I have modified one before. I understand that with a new template the fields could be manu...

Using AS with Dutch Population Registers
The Dutch had an interesting way of keeping track of the population. Instead of conducting a census, they kept track of people using their address. In the register, each house had its own page. At the beginning of a 10 or 20 year period, the inhabitants of each house were entered into the register w...

Re: Copy Project Failed
Shortening the filenames fixed the problem! I must have been right on the cusp of exceeding the limit because my full backups have been working without any problem. I use rather descriptive filenames for my media, so I definitely needed to do as y'all suggested by shortening my Project name, master ...

Re: Copy Project Failed
I just did the same process of right clicking on the original file and selecting Delete (this was scary), and the following window popped up showing my original file with 4524 total files. So something is stopping the process before it finishes.

Re: Copy Project Failed
It seemed to go through with the process, but I think it only copied a portion of the file before it stopped (even though it still created the file). I suspect this because when I went to delete the file using the Delete Project command in the Project Window by right clicking on the file - it shows ...

Copy Project Failed
I am trying to copy a project, per the instructions on the Split Tree Helper and it is returning a Copy Failed window and claiming the System cannot find the path specified . The path specified is where I have been running the program from, so I don't know how that can be wrong, however, I did notic...

Well, I'll be chagrinned!
I did not see your post, Lorna. Thanks. It was interesting reading, and I learned a lot about the history of the US Census! That is the first I have ever seen that version - or the first I have noticed it!?!

Re: Updating AS Census Auto Text Tables
I'm not sure if what I am saying is understood. It's not the unfilled columns, rather the extra columns not included in the actual census. I had to break it into 3 snips to be legible.

Re: Updating AS Census Auto Text Tables
It is the 1940 USA Census. There are about 20 additional columns in the AS template, compared to the familysearch.com census records I have seen for 1940. Here is a sample of one of them. Not a big deal - just thought it was odd there were that many.

Updating AS Census Auto Text Tables
I was entering a lot of census records from 1900-1940 and noticed that some of the table columns in AS did not match the online picture of the particular census record. Did they use different census record designs in different parts of the country? Is there a process to modifying the table when some...

Re: Census Witness
Fair Enough, Nick. While I was waiting for some replies and after Brent tickled my curiosity about AS's templates, it reminded me that somewhere I saw where you can customise some of the AS templates. So I started tinkering, and much to my surprise, even though I am new to both AS and FH, I was able...

Re: Census Witness
I did not realise the Text from Source field was an editable field. I thought it only reflected what a Source record would say  I also did not know about the Table option and the awesome feature of Linking within this field. It is just like the Note box, which I have used often, (but still did...

Sorry Nick. I was not clear. I am talking about records that are not the standard AS types. Not, Birth, Baptism, Marriage, Census, etc.

Re: Census Witness
I incorrectly stated that the Census Principal people were viewed in the Notes window, when I should have said they are viewed in the Text from Source box (and Text from Source tab). Thanks Mike, for stepping through the process, which confirms that we are both talking about the same thing with a Ce...

Re: Census Witness
As you say, the Fact Witnesses list is only a click away. However, it requires a significant amount of multiple entry because each of the multiple facts must have the list of Fact Witnesses added. Also, you need to review how they appear in Reports. So, here's a rather "outside of the box" idea. Wh...

Re: Census Witness
Is there a down-side to using the witness feature in FH with a census created in AS using method 1? I know it is not necessary, since the persons are already linked via the source, but it seems an easy way to see who else is in a particular census. For instance; if I see that Johnny Peeps has a 193...
