Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
Nick Walker said, "I've been thinking about this and I'd be interested in seeing some of these threads where people ask a basic beginners question and then someone answers it in an unnecessarily 'techie' way." Hi Nick, that's not the problem. The problem is putting off new users before they ask a qu...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
Ok, so everyone took my response the wrong way so I must have written it wrong. I should have filled in some of the blanks in my first post. I apologize, to all y'all. I'm 3rd level support myself, so if I am poking you then I am poking me. Yes you guys have helped me in the past and did a wonderful...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
I would like to work on genealogy, instead I find myself working on Family Historian. I can't find answers to questions in the knowledge base because, as another mentioned, I can't figure out the key words. I end up here and exactly as you say it is mostly techie. It seems I start with 3rd level sup...

Re: Diagram Options: Boxes: Condition Box Type: Descendant
Mike, I have a small audience too and most things are intuitively obvious to the casual observer. The yellow background boxes can easily be explained as an anomaly put there to see if they were paying attention.
Thanks for your help. As always, it has been enlightening.

Re: Diagram Options: Boxes: Condition Box Type: Descendant
When I ask "What is the significance?" I mean that from the perspective of someone reading my "book". What is the yellow color coding telling them? How does it help them understand what they are looking at? I placed this diagram in my book as a one page picture index of sorts. Essentially the narrat...

Re: Diagram Options: Boxes: Condition Box Type: Descendant
To Jane: Yes! The answer is yes! My Grandma's siblings would be descendants of my Great Grandfather who is also on my diagram. The green Ancestor color must have precedence or everything would be yellow. Now, why would I want to know that? What is the significance? Maybe it just shows they are not i...

Re: Diagram Options: Boxes: Condition Box Type: Descendant
I am trying to figure out how to use this board so I apologize upfront. In an attempt to be specific I think I am writing too much and it is muddying the water. To Jane and Tatewise: Let me narrow the topic down so I can understand what you are speaking to. The default settings are incorrectly ident...

Diagram Options: Boxes: Condition Box Type: Descendant
What the default color coding for "Descendant" on my Diagram would be more accurately described as "Not a Direct Ancestor". I have siblings of my Grandma which are color coded (light yellow) as "Descendant" based on the name of the tab in the Diagram Options Box. That is clearly wrong. There is no t...

Re: File Merge Dialog Box: Save the Changes, How
Thanks for trying Mike. We don't seem to be communicating and I don't know how to make the question any clearer. I have plenty of backups so I gave it shot. Turns out you can't discard multiple actions without first separating the 2 records. Back to my original problem. It wasn't a waste of time tho...

Re: File Merge Dialog Box: Save the Changes, How
Sorry Mike, I should have been more clear. I am trying to discard multiple actions so the far left column. If I discard multiple actions does it delete Current Records? I would like to discard multiple Imported Records but it only seems to allow the selection of 1 record at a time. I say "seems" bec...

Re: Drag and Drop between projects
While most of the specifics on how to accomplish drag and drop are above me, I, nevertheless, am interested in drag and drop. I file merged my 2 files/projects into a 3rd after figuring out Split Tree Helper. I have a few duplicate records. The reason I went down this path is because I have some inf...

File Merge Dialog Box: Save the Changes, How
Version 7.0.7. Level of expertise: Beginner. I searched the knowledge base and found nothing. It is possible I am not using the proper keywords. I am trying to merge 2 files. I don't like the results so I keep trying. Each time I redo I start over in the Merge File dialog box. The granularity of thi...
