Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
This problem coincided with OneDrive telling me that I had exceeded my 5GB allowance and perhaps in trying to resolve that problem I may have upset FH programme. Any help appreciated. Are you saying that you have only 5GB of storage allowance on OneDrive? If that is so I don't see how you could pos...

Re: Export Gedcom File to The Genealogist
As a matter of interest, how do you get from The Genealogist website to that TreeView website? I've searched The Genealogist and can find no reference to that site or any free options. Until I caught up with this thread I was not aware that The Genealogist had made TreeView available as a standalon...

Re: Media and Transcripts
Perhaps I was not precise with my question, I was not asking about how and where to create the transcription, but where to put it in FH7. I was also taking a rather blinkered view on just the Media and forgetting the Source citations - 'Text from Source' is clearly the right place. As far as creatin...

Re: Media and Transcripts
In future simply type the transcription straight into the Text From Source field and avoid Word altogether. I am using Word because I use these transcripts elsewhere, outside of FH7. For example to send copies to family members. They are just plain text transcripts, so no layout or formatting to wo...

Re: Media and Transcripts
What I tend to do with multiple images such as this e.g.Service records, which can run into many pages, is to store them in an appropriate place within my filing system. I am not talking about multiple images - I am talking about a scanned image of a letter or postcard, that I have made a transcrip...

The scanned images are either jpeg or png, but as I said I have made manual transcripts - these are in Word or plain text.

Media and Transcripts
I have a number of media files that are scanned family documents - e.g. letters, postcards and wills. Some of these are handwritten and not easy to read, so I am transcribing them into Word documents. For the shorter examples I have cut and pasted the transcript into the Media Notes section, but som...

Re: Export Gedcom File to The Genealogist
Thanks for all the Feedback.
I have an old Legacy tree on the The Genealogist I have tried exporting this and it exports as Gedcom 5.5. I want to replace this with my up to date FH tree, so I will do some trials tomorrow.

Export Gedcom File to The Genealogist
Mike
I am at the point where I want to upload my FH tree to my account on The Genealogist website, but I can't find that as a specific option.
Can you advise the best choice from the available list.

Re: Place location indicator
Sorry about that, I don't think that there is any way of modifying the base map. It is an embedded OpenStreetMap so FH themselves probably have little or no control over the map display, other than to overlay place data. It might be worth asking FH Technical Support, but think the only way to make t...

Re: {KEYPERSON}
You are right, it only takes a few seconds, so not a major inconvenience, and I only do it when the 'Head of Household' is not related to the KEYPERSON. However, I do have one census source where I have used the head as KEYPERSON, even though neither he nor his wife exist as individuals in FH. The r...

Nick I am using a modified "Strathclyde" format for my census source titles, e.g. ' Census 1841 : Huntington, Yorkshire, England : 6 Jun 1841 : JACKSON, Robert : [A0038-0000] ' using the Title Template - {SOURCETYPE} {YEAR} : {PLACE} ({ADDR}) : {DATE} : {KEYPERSON.SN_GN.CAPS} : [{KEYPERSON.CUSTOMID}...

Re: Question re: usage of Census, Residence and Occupation
For version FH 6 Calico Pie published a "Users Manual", written by Simon Orde, entitled 'Getting the most from Family Historian 6'. On page 61 it defines what is meant by "Fact", and I quote - " In Family Historian, the word 'Fact' is often used as shorthand for 'event or attribute'. The Facts tab t...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
Those discussing their desire for discussions appear to be mainly long-time users of FH, but, a high percentage of posts seem to be generated by new users trying to get to grips with the complexities of FH. Discussions that go off topic do nothing to help an already confused poster. As a recent exam...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
I was once part of a (Facebook) forum for a well-known commercial FH website. But not for long. Someone had asked a question "The parish registers for XYZ didn't appear to be available on the site? Why not?" (Exact wording not guaranteed). The mods said "Ask the site's support team" and the thread ...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
The proposals all look pretty sensible to me. Anything that streamlines the forum and makes things easier to find would be good. So with that in mind can I make an observation which generates two further suggestions. Looking at the forum today there are several very long threads - some having been a...

Re: Source & media naming
I take care to give a source and associated media file(s) the same name (Source short title, media file name) may be with a (1 of x) appended for media files if there are multiple images making up the source. I do the same, for similar reasons, and also because media files are often collected a lit...

Re: unable to enter FHUG site with message Your clock is behind etc
Brent, What version of Windows are you using? Windows 10 introduced the facility to set time zones automatically - see attached image. This is the recommended setting for laptops if they are going to be used in different time zones. It also has the facility to show additional time zones, so you can ...

Re: unable to enter FHUG site with message Your clock is behind etc
I think that your comment - ------- got this message (similar on Edge, Firefox and Opera): - that this occurs on different browsers - pinpoints the cause of your problem - which is nothing to do with FHUG. Neither is it a "New" Windows security feature. (It is actually a network security feature of ...

Re: Media Thumbnails
Before I get more responses re the dangers of transcripts - these are linked to the source record alongside the census image - they are especially valuable where mis-transcriptions are concerned, especially in the case where the surname ROLLIN of the census image had been transcribed as BOLLIN!
