Re: Dealing with AGE anomalies
Thanks all, I record the 'Source given' ages in all my sources, plus any name anomalies (like ROLLIN transcribed as BOLLIN), but was not sure the best way to go for the 'Fact Box' age, but your consensus is clearly to use the age from source. Regarding the unreliability of ages on death certificates...

Dealing with AGE anomalies
Following on from the Standard Names question, I was wondering how FH users deal with the situation where an individual gives different ages for events over time (e.g Marriages and censuses). In particular which age should I record in the AGE field in the Facts Property Box? Should I use the age giv...

Re: Standard name
I am getting confused! If we are talking about name variants for the same person, then I think the right place to document those is as notes in the source citation for the event where they occur. If we are talking about an index function linking different (related) families/individuals who spell the...

Re: Dealing with 'ORPHAN' record
I think that the real lesson to learn from this is not to take every fact as gospel. Even "Official" documents can carry mistakes, misunderstandings and downright lies! I have several examples in my family history, such as a baptism recorded as taking place 2 days before the birth, and a marriage ce...

Re: Dealing with 'ORPHAN' record
Thanks for the GRO indices tip, I am already registered, so I will search it this morning. There is no question of multiple marriages for either William or Susannah I have their marriage details, their census records from 1841 to 1881 and both of their death certificates (they died within 5 weeks of...

Re: Dealing with 'ORPHAN' record
Just to report back, I created a dummy child of William and Susannah, but FH7 would not allow me to link Sarah as a child of someone with their sex set as "unknown". I think it is probable that Sarah is an illegitimate child of one of the elder daughters of the family, so I have assigned their sex a...

Re: Dealing with 'ORPHAN' record
Thanks both, I have already made notes on Sarah's record, but at the moment she is just an orphan entry, the dummy child of William and Susannah sounds the best idea. I think I have found her birth index record but, as she is not a direct line ancestor, I am reluctant to spend money on a copy certif...

Dealing with 'ORPHAN' record
What is the best way to deal with this situation - In both the 1871 Census my 3x g grandparents William and Susannah had living with them Sarah, shown as grandchild. I have used AS to create sources for both census records, but I do not know who the linking parent is, other than (presumably) one of ...

Certificate Numbers
I am currently entering sources for Birth, Marriage and Death certificates. The left hand column of each certificate has a " No. " column, but I have not been able to find where to enter this in AS. When I have created the auto text entry I am adding this number manually. Is that the right way or am...

Multimedia Query Query
I am trying to modify a simple Media query, as per image, to include the Record ID field. The Fields list shows a Field named Automated Record ID , which I have added and which gives the code %OBJE.RIN% . However, when I run the query the ID column remains blank. %OBJE.FILE% and %OBJE.KEYS% are work...

Re: Uncertainty re which are my ancestors
Personally I wouldn't put any conflicting information into a family tree until I had researched it further and identified which (if either) was correct. If you are talking four generations there must be other sources like BMD, Parish and census records that could throw light on the problem. If you d...

Hi guys, I posted a reply earlier today which doesn't seem to have been uploaded, so I'll try again! This issue is all to do with the Nova PDF driver settings not FH. Use File > Print Setup... select Family Historian PDF and click Properties... , but rather than going to the profiles tab go to the S...

Re: Issue with Informant Witness for Birth Certificates
Nick, strictly speaking the Informant is NOT a Fact Witness to the Birth Event, but a Fact Witness to the Birth Registration Event that occurs on a different Date in a different Place completely. This applies to both Births and Deaths, where, unlike marriages and baptisms, the registration takes pla...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
May not be helpful in what you are trying to achieve, but I have AS record the Occupation in the local Note field of the Census fact rather than create a separate Occupation fact - this ensures I don't have a series of Occupation facts for a person on my webbite (for each Census year) that all say ...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
Nick, Bad choice of words, but the point I was trying to make about occupation was that, since AGE is an attribute of the census fact, it is quite straightforward to create the census Query table showing ages. at each census. Occupation, however, is a separate Fact. Census and occupation may be link...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
I didn't mention occupation - this doesn't look quite as easy. Mike may be able to put me right on this, but unless I have not looked in the right place, I can't find Occupation shown as a sub-field of, for example the Census 1851 Fact. Ancestral Sources creates an "Occupation" Fact with the same da...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
I do a similar thing, but I use Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets. Instead of using the generic FH "Census" Fact Type I have created a Fact Type for each Census Year and also the 1939 register e.g. "Census 1841". It is then quite easy to create a query to create a table. Below Is a clip from mine (not a ...

Is the screen shown below what you are talking about? If so that is NOT the Viewer. The viewer would be Adobe Acrobat or whatever other PDF viewer you currently use. The screen shown is the final part of the printing process - the PDF has not been created yet. The screen lets you edit / insert the F...

Re my original query. I have now created a "Birth registered" Fact and after uploading the Birth source I am manually linking it to this fact as well.
Thanks for your input.

FactOwner Name formatting in fact based query
Can somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong here, I am trying to edit a Factowner name expression to display Surname first with the following expression. =Field(FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST),'INDI.NAME:SURNAME_FIRST') I have added :SURNAME_FIRST to an existing expression, the Query editor is...

Re: Issue with Informant Witness for Birth Certificates
Thanks Nick,
I have now done that and also edited the Source title to show SURNAME first.
I noticed that there is an option to include {KEYPERSON.ID}, is there a way of including Custom IDs i.e. for KEYPERSON and RELATIONSHIP

Re: Issue with Informant Witness for Birth Certificates
Thanks Mike, I am actually quite happy not to have the informant fact at all, it is usually the mother or father anyway - it might be of interest if it were someone else! AS will include it in the Text from Source for me. So, once it is uploaded to FH I can delete the informant from the witness list.

Re: Issue with Informant Witness for Birth Certificates
I understand all that, but there is a major flaw here. I do not desire the Informant Fact Witness event to be distinct from the Birth Event, but I do require that information shown is factually correct (i.e. assigning the correct date to the Informant role)!. There are enough errors and inaccuracies...
