Excluding Cause of Death in Reports
I have been trying to create some "standard" Individual Summary Reports and hit a problem with the DEATH event. In the " Individual Events and Attributes " section Death Entries were showing a line for Cause: and another for Address: . I want to exclude the Cause: line, however, there doesn't seem t...

Re: Amazon Fire tablet - view GEDCOM data
I have my FH Projects on Microsoft OneDrive, so that I can work seamlessly on PC or Laptop. I also have OneDrive on my Android tablet and am considering trying out GED Explorer. Could I use GED Explorer to access my OneDrive FH project Gedcom files direct, or should I create dedicated GED Explorer G...

Re: Media File Names in queries
I have both Understanding Functions and Understanding Expressions downloaded to my PC for easy access.
However, as I had already built the nested expression based on your example, I just tested "space-colon-space" myself -- Another example of "Reading the manual" being the last resort!

Re: Media File Names in queries
Hi Mike, The Section(...) Function is so useful! I am using AS and I use " : " (SPACE COLON SPACE). to split the elements of my customised Source Titles as per - Baptism : Ryhill, Yorkshire, England :7 Mar 1897 : ROLLIN Sarah : [A0004-0001] I wasn't sure that the Section function would accept " : " ...

Re: Media File Names in queries
Thanks Mike, I knew there wouldn't be a simple answer! My longest paths in my Media folder are 7 levels deep, so I decided to build from the bottom up. I found the easiest way to keep the syntax right was to start with the expression =TextIf(Section(%OBJE.FILE%,3,"\") = "",Section(%OBJE.FILE%,2,"\")...

Media File Names in queries
I have my Media files split into sub-directories in the MEDIA folder. I have a Multimedia query that uses the Expression %OBJE.FILE[1]% which returns the path and file name e.g. Media\BMD Records\05-Marriages\Parish Records\Marriage (PR) DOHERTY Thomas - BARLOW Ada J [FAM-088].jpg Is there any Funct...

Re: Custom ID
It is in the Source Title as per the template below in place of "KEYPERSON.CUSTOMID", which is OK for Births and Deaths, but for Marriages I use the FAMILY Custom ID, which I add manually. {SOURCETYPE} : {PLACE} : ({ADDR}) {DATE} : {KEYPERSON.SN.CAPS} {KEYPERSON.GN} & {SPOUSE.SN.CAPS} {SPOUSE.GN} : ...

Re: Custom ID
Hi Nick, Custom IDs are working well for me, however, I have a request for an additional option with Custom IDs for Marriages. Rather than using Individual IDs for Marriage sources, I use the Family ID (%INDI.FAMS>REFN%) or (%FAM.HUSB>FAMS>REFN%.) Is it possible to add this as an option in the next ...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Regarding your Item 3 --- the View facility. You could do this with a Named List but it would not be automatic, you would have to add items to the list manually, but it only takes a couple of clicks. I have a Work in Progress List where I add records I am working on (or need to work on!) The big adv...

Following on from Adrian's post, using the cog wheel gives the following screen - . Accents.jpg . If you click on Add Accent Set you will see that there is an Icelandic Set, which has all the characters you need. When you add an accent set you get the options of either merging it with the existing s...

Re: Copy Project Failed
I concur with Jane and Mike - it is almost certainly a case of exceeding the 255 character file path length limit. In my experience most people are not aware of this limit. I try to keep my folder names short, but meaningful, so "Family Historian" (16 characters) I shorten to "FH" (2 characters). Th...

Re: Duplicated entries in a query
Thanks Nick,
What I should have said is that Ref ID field is the right place to enter it in AS. I had a new death certificate to enter yesterday, and the reference ID did appear in the FH Publication Information field.

Re: Duplicated entries in a query
I am using Ancestral Sources so I think the Ref ID field is the right place.
The total number of BMD certificates I have created sources for is about 30 so far, so it is not a big job to cut the information from the Fact Note and paste into the source.
Thanks for all the help guys.

Re: Duplicated entries in a query

Re: How can I use a quarter date in a custom query?
too true! My father was born 18th December, but nan was late registering him, so adjusted his birth to 31 December to avoid a fine. The birth registration entry actually appears in the index in Q1, the following year! In England and Wales births must be registered within 42 days (six weeks). So, fo...

Re: Showing people as Never Married in Custom Query
Several reasons, but the basic one is that I have people in my tree who, although records say they were married, I have not yet found a marriage record. One of the purposes of this particular query is to highlight those. So flagging people I definitely know were never married eliminates them from th...

Re: Showing people as Never Married in Custom Query
Hi Mike, I found, by trial and error, that FH ranks Spouses based on their tab positions in the Property Box - from left to right (or top to bottom!) regardless of their chronological sequence. By ensuring all my 'Direct Line" spouses are the left hand (Top) 'Tab 1' they all become SPOUSE[1], thus m...

Hi I have a custom query that has a column that displays Year Married - I want to modify the expression to display "Unm" for people I have confirmed never married -- to differentiate them from those people for whom I have not yet found / recorded a marriage. Re: AGE AT formatting in Queries
Thanks Jane, I never thought of using TextToNumber, it does exactly what I want. This displays as 0 yrs 9 mns in the Property Box. The FH Census Fac...

AGE AT formatting in Queries
I have a query, one of the uses of which is checking for missing census records for individuals. It uses the expression %INDI.CENS[year=1841].AGE% to return the individuals age at the census. I want to export this query as a csv file to use in an Excel spreadsheet and want the age as a simple numeri...
