Re: Sources and Proof Arguments
Lorna's solution is quite neat. I think so too! Thanks both Quick update - I found there was already a Custom Id - so I changed the label to Title for both Property Box and Records Window and it works like a dream! It means I don't need to include a title inside the note and such a neat trick to sq...

Re: Sources and Proof Arguments
Just posting to say Notes are doing the job nicely, especially since I can add links to sources quoted. I do have one question, I am using the first line of the note as a title, as can be seen in the image below both the top row (alongside the yellow folder image) and the "Text" row show the whole o...

Re: Sources and Proof Arguments
No, you cannot change the order of the Records Window tabs. Why would you want to? I don't particularly want to, but you said in your post that the Notes tab was next to the Research Notes tab, but on my Records Window, once I had set the Notes tab to show, they were separated by the Sources, Media...

Re: Sources and Proof Arguments
Bear in mind that I was talking about Note Records found on the Records Window Notes tab (alongside the Research Notes tab). They are processed with Record Links and can be linked to other records just like Research Notes. They are not the same as the local Note boxes attached to each Fact, Citatio...

Re: Sources and Proof Arguments
Finally, I've learned over the years to ignore the dross online. That is the path to pain. But if you wish to refute other's findings you can drop the [[ ]], publish an individual summary report, and your evidence can be easily shared in a PDF format. Correcting this particular error has been a bit...

Re: Sources and Proof Arguments
Peter, as well as recording the proof you may want to consider how it will appear in reports and export to other products. you are right, that is one reason why I posted in the forum, to get the pros and cons from others with more experience. I have not done much within Notes other than write brief...

Sources and Proof Arguments
I have read posts re multiple sources, but can't find anything about "Proof Arguments". In a lot of instances a proof argument is not required, a couple of agreeing sources is sufficient, but I have a particular example with my g-g grandmother Susannah Rollin - where the 1851 census implies that she...

Adding Ref I.D. to Long and Short Titles
Hi Nick, I am using the Strathclyde source citation format so, for example, A census entry Long Title would look like - Census : England : Radford, Nottinghamshire : 30 March 1851 : BEST, Elizabeth : [A0072-00] : PN HO107/2130. FL 119. SN 109. ED 2d. p. 33. and a Short Title - Census : 1851 : BEST, ...

Re: One-Name Studies and FH
Hi Jessie, I started researching my family tree many years ago. My paternal line is ROLLIN - an uncommon name, but my maternal grandmother's surname was Fothergill, her father (my g-g grandfather) died at the battle of Spion Kop in the second Boer War. I have traced his family back, via Nottinghamsh...

Re: Adding sources without templates
Many users like to use the companion program Ancestral Sources, which simplifies the capture of the Census details tabulated much like the Census record, and automatically adds each new Census, Occupation & Birth fact with the Source Citations attached. See FHUG Knowledge Base Getting Started with ...

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
I have attached copies of the mail headers for the duplicated messages I received on 5th July, one at 08:16 and the other at 08:24 - the differences are highlighted in yellow. Perhaps this may be of use to you and Amazon in analysing what is happening. There is one strange difference, with the last ...

A quick Add-on to my last post,
I have just checked my inbox and found that, like Uppedsticks, I didn't receive one last week (19th July)

Re: This week's active discussion topics in the FHUG Forums email
As Lorna says this issue has been discussed previously - and much longer ago than five weeks. I have been experiencing the problem on and off for quite a while. Since the beginning of the year everything has worked fine, but in the last couple of months I have had duplicate copies at least three tim...

Re: question about OneDrive usage
Bill, as you have explained regarding your setup, there are many configuration options in OneDrive. Typically, the OneDrive folder will be located within your default My Documents folder. Is it possible that you have moved your My Documents folder from C:\Users\Bill\Documents to D:\My Documents The...

Re: question about OneDrive usage
It may show as "Documents", as per my Windows Explorer screenshot below. It also depends upon whether you changed your default My Documents folder location to the OneDrive folder when you set up OneDrive. Assuming your user name is Bill, look in the folder \users\Bill\ - this is the default My Docum...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Having OneDrive file access set to on demand is OK, if you can guarantee internet access. I am not a pessimist, more of a pragmatist so I always have ' keep on this device ' set for my FH project files - on both laptop and PC. I know from bitter experience how frustrating it is not to be able to wor...

Re: FH Short Date and ISO Format
This topic has been discussed in depth before in 18777|Including update date in reports and 19707|Abbreviated month name with FH expression solutions and Calico Pie's reply to requesting a proper ISO format. but I don't think the discussion pointed out that FH7 uses the ISO date format when naming ...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Edward When you install FH, it creates the 'Family Historian Projects' folder in the default documents folder (for windows, usually My Documents) - and installs the sample project there. If you move the Projects folder somewhere else (e.g. OneDrive) - then you have to manually edit the location in t...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
That is the FH default folder - you need to click on the location path as shown in the red box in Bills message and browse to find your "OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects" folder.
You need to do this on both PC and Laptop, you should then see the projects in the projects window.

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)

I was just highlighting that they had radically changed on both PC since Edward's previous thread 18 months ago. For OneDrive sync to work the same Microsoft Account / OneDrive sign...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
FOR MIKE From his post Edward appears to have his FH Project working on his PC, so you should be able to help him check that his FH Project is OK on his PC. The laptop, I think, is a different kettle of fish. What concerns me is the fact that the PC and the laptop have different user names. Microso...

Re: Married Name attribute or type?
It gets more interesting if the person had multiple partners/spouses/marriages. I've reworked my records to display the Married Name attribute, instead of the Married Name type and immediately encountered two women who had more than one married name. Do you have a suggestion for handling these "mor...
