Re: TO Do Report
I'm making progress. Thanks to Mike for the solution to display the "For:" person. In the record it shows up blue (hyperlink), but your link operator works perfectly. In my notes, the TITLE is the specific action I need to do, such as "Find in 1950 census". I have some text coming over following the...

TO Do Report
I'm moving over from RM7 and have been super pleased with FH7, with 1 exception. RM has a built-in TO Do List Report. It produces a relatively compact report of all TO DOs in the database. It puts about 7 TO Dos on a portrait page. AND, it is sorted by Last Name, First Name. Is this even possible to...

Re: Notes not appearing in Notes Tab
Mike,
Thanks. I'm breathing a little easier now. I must have missed the part where it said that those were only shared notes. So, it looks like everything is working like is is supposed to be (something I'm not used to as a Roots Magic user.)

Notes not appearing in Notes Tab
I am finalizing my conversion from Roots Magic 7 and things are going fairly smooth. But there is one thing that is strange that I can't figure out. My notes seem to come over fine, at least when I have an individual's record up I can see them in the NOTES tab in the right side of the screen; LOCAL ...

Reports too wide for page
I’m sure there is a way to fix this, but I haven’t found it. I recently converted away from RootsMagic 7 (I’m not sure if RM8 is ever going to be ready for prime time.) The conversion nicely brought over all of my Research Logs as Research Notes. But when I attempt to print them, they run off the ri...

Re: Two Computers, One Set of FH data files
I was just thinking that it might be nice to go upstairs and fire up the desktop without having to copy all my files (including media) which is GB in size onto a thumb drive and move them ... and then move them back. Or have another $ubscription to an online service for one thing to make my life a l...

Two Computers, One Set of FH data files
I have 2 PCs. One is a laptop and the other a desktop with a huge screen. The laptop is in my office and the desktop is in what passes for a library on a different floor. Is it possible to install FH on the laptop and have my files on the laptop, and also install FH on the desktop and have that inst...

Re: Places database
There are several old (by old, I mean 1800’s) topographical dictionaries of England, Ireland, Scotland and possibly some non-English speaking countries available for download in PDF format on Ancestry Books and the Archive site.
I use them extensively. They are packed with information.

Re: Historically correct names for Canada
Adrian, This matter is pretty complicated with very little authoritative information. I’ve been trying to piece together a timeline. I would appreciate any and all input on this. So if I have a city, Chatham, in Kent county, Ontario, I would enter it as Chatham, Kent, Ontario, Canada for anything af...

Re: 'Getting the Most From' ... V7?
I’m making the jump to FH7 from RM. I found a used copy of the version 6 book on Amazon for about $4, plus a couple of bucks for shipping. Turns out, it looks brand new. I spent several hours working through it and the sample project. It was well worth the time investment. Some of the newer features...

Re: Is it possible to copy a Source record?
Lorna, I just found the clone option in the Automatic Source Citation cog-menu. I have to say that was buried pretty deep in a not-to-obvious place. I would have thought that a right-click on a Source in the main records window would have done it. Also, thanks for the heads-up on the plugin. I’ll do...

Historically correct names for Canada
I’m trying to get my place names historically accurate. Does anyone know of a sort of simple reference that can help me figure out what names I should be using for Canada in different eras? It’s gone by New France, British North America, Province of Canada, among others.

Is it possible to copy a Source record?
In Roots Magic, when I need to add a new Source, like a birth registration from Scotland, I find a Source for one I have already entered, right-click on it, select Copy, edit the new one and make a few minor changes and I’m good to go. Is there a way to do this in FH7? I’ve been looking at menus, ri...

Re: How to change the TYPE field in Source record
I just tried some others created from template and none of them allow me to enter the field. Since I imported from Roots Magic all of my sources have a template listed.

Re: How to change the TYPE field in Source record
Maybe it can't be done on a source created from a free-form template?
Under the Main tab, I get:
Title
Template
Footnote
Short Footnote
Bibliography

How to change the TYPE field in Source record
I’m a new user to FH and am updating my Roots Magic import to use the added functionality of FH7. How the heck can I edit the type field (birth, census, etc.) on the Source record? There must be either some super-secret or blindingly obvious path to get there, because I just can’t seem to find it. R...

FH7 Where are files kept?
I’m beginning the process of converting from Roots Magic to FH. Is there a listing of where all of the files that FH uses are located and what info they contain? I’m in the process of cleaning up my RM database and trying to free my records from being held hostage by many RM-only peculiarities, so m...
