Re: Question re: usage of Census, Residence and Occupation
I agree with Nick's comments. Factual information... I learned very early on in my family history researches that the information recorded is not necessarily accurate or true. Some of my forebears (and members of other families that I have researched) told lies! Especially concerning their age, mari...

Re: Question re: usage of Census, Residence and Occupation
For 'residential' information from the Census Return I use the Census Fact not the Residence Fact. (It is then easy to check for missing Census years).
Yes, I add an Occupation Fact and update all the other associated Facts (e.g. Birth, Parents, Death (from a widowed spouse), etc.)

Re: suppress select witness facts in property box
I, too, use a similar custom fact but I do not link it to the parents. I add the child's parents as Witnesses to the birth fact. My custom fact pre-dates my usage of Witnesses but I have continued to use it as it contains the Family Record reference and the parents' names for the birth family, and, ...

Re: Renumber Record IDs as part of "RE-DO"
I think the only time that I used the File Root was in my early days of using FH, before I learned how to easily navigate the records. I remember changing it according to which line I was researching. My main FH project contains details of many family groups: the original line, those married/'espous...

Re: Advisability of changing Census Roles from default options
Like you; I think I feel more comfortable entering data from the properties box, facts tab. Part of this is that I'm actually always mentally doing analysis on the data as I enter it and like to have a pseudo-timeline in front of me as I do so. Because I do a lot of French research, I also do a lot...

Re: Advisability of changing Census Roles from default options
Gary, I think you are asking for something that cannot exist. There is not just one, or a few, ways of using FH. That is why I moved to, and continue to use, FH. I use it to aid how I want to store, display, analyse, report and export my genealogical/family history information, rather than my having...

Re: Use of <whole record> and Name source citations
Don't we want multiple citations for the same assertion? If we only have a single source for an assertion, then that weakens the case that it's correct. I'll even cite conflicting sources (with a note to explain how I've resolved the conflict) rather than not cite a source that contains information...

I was doing that, but there are too many and it became tiresome. I am just hoping that eventually CP sorts it out.

Re: Rich Text font detection
Please do report this to CP. This is one of the problems with Rich Text that I reported to them last year (although I worded it differently). At one stage, it was noticeable when looking at the Note box because the cursor was sitting on the 'second line'. The last update stopped that happening. My p...

Re: Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin
Just a minor observation: would it help if the rows were sorted by data ref within each individual to make it easier to see where there are multiple sources for a single field. For me, not needed. I use the Result Set as a step in producing a custom Report that I have created. Maybe others would fi...

Re: Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin
Thank you Mike. I am aware of Timeline facts but I don't like CP's wording! I like to see my Property Box Fact Tabs list laid out and worded in a particular way. I am not adding these BMD Fact Witnesses to all people but to a few families where I have a particular interest. Regarding the Source Cita...

Re: Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin
Aha. I've just started to experiment with Witnesses (I held back after losing all my TMG Witnesses when I came long ago to FH!), and I've made the presumption that the existing Sources for the Fact would be carried over to the Witness. I see that isn't so. When I highlight the Witness Fact in the Wi...

Re: Sources List for Selected Individuals plugin
Mike,
Thank you. However, I am not sure if I am misunderstanding something. The plugin is not working for me. I am getting the same Result Set for both versions of the plugin (2022 version, and today's version.) That is, no Source listed where the Individual is a Witness to another person's fact.

Re: Add Source Type to Source plugin
I would prefer a tick option to overwrite existing Source Types. (There have been occasions when I wished the 'Add Repository to Source' plugin did update a Source Record.)
'Or are you happy to set a new Source Type into one Source record beforehand so that it then appears in the list?'
Yes.

Yes.
That is, Select a number of Source Records, then choose the type from the Generic Source Type list.

Add Source Type to Source plugin
It would be useful for me to have a plugin similar to 'Add Repository to Source': Add Source Type to Source.
Would it be possible to create, or adapt, the existing plugin to achieve this?
I use Generic Sources.
Thank you.

The Family Historian in-built Help is a good starting point: 'Create Fact Definition Dialog' and 'Fact Definition Dialog'. The FHUG Knowledge Base (see the link at the top of this page) has a range of useful articles. Look under 'Entering and Editing Data' for 'Facts'. 'Entering Standard and Custom ...

Re: Family Reunions
I have done this. I create a Source in which to store the information (Text From Source). Any Media is linked to the Source. I have a Custom Fact which I copy to all the Individuals concerned. (I do not use 'Witnesses'.) I set the Fact as an 'Attribute' and put a brief note in the 'Value' field (e.g...

Re: Residence
I record separate residences, keeping each piece of information in its 'dated' place. However, also I have a custom fact (Res List) in which is listed in the Note, in date order, all the residences of an individual, including place of birth, death and burial. Some duplication of information and effo...
