Re: Exporting to Wikitree
Anyway, I cannot think of any way that FH can easily produce those profiles in WikiTree markup. They would appear to be plain text files, so a report saved in Text format seems the only avenue worth exploring. Yes, I agree. So I suppose we are now moving outside the scope of FH's in-built capabilit...

Re: Exporting to Wikitree
Teresa is correct. There is limited capability to actually import GEDCOMs into Wikitree, and it is only used to compare against existing profiles already in the connected tree. Furthermore, I don't think that Wikitree generates report-like narratives from the "GEDCOMpare" report (hence my asking for...

Re: Exporting to Wikitree
Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply. It is not possible to import FH projects (or GEDCOMs) into Wikitree. Their profiles use a style of HTML markup which can be edited in free-form by users. What I would like to do is be able to take the data from my FH project and generate text which is suitable to be p...

Exporting to Wikitree
I would like to export something akin to the Individual Narrative Report to a format compatible with Wikitree markup. This would include primarily sources formatted correctly for Wikitree biographies using the <ref> tags.
Is this possible in FH7?

Re: Source Template Format Definitions
Thanks for your solution @tatewise, and everyone else's thoughts. URL semantics aside, the only reason I had thought to split it in this fashion is that the resulting footnote/short footnote/bibliography entry is all that is going to be seen in the end (as opposed to my fields in each source record)...

Re: Source Template Format Definitions
I have a similar issue regarding spacing in source template definitions (which I must say in general are actually quite frustrating to understand and revise quickly on the fly!). I am trying to write a source template definition wherein I can have two fields - one for the root URL of a website (eg, ...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
This is a completely different take to what the rest of the thread has revolved around, but I think this may be a solution to your problem. I use the 'Timeline Grid' devised by Kathryn Grant of BYU (which is really what you have included as an example and is not unique to her). To include it in FH7,...

Re: re naming source/media files
Thanks Mike. I don't have an issue with requiring special characters as none of my media file names (or any files for that matter) have those characters in them.

Re: re naming source/media files
To make that change use Edit and then File > Save The line to change is line 34: local newfile = 'O'..id..'_'..string.gsub(fhGetItemText(ptr,strTitl),'[_%W]','_')..'.'..ext which needs to be: local newfile = string.gsub(fhGetItemText(ptr,strTitl),'[_%W]','')..'.'..ext that omits the leading O and i...

Census DEA - accent characters error?
I have just begun to encounter the following error after running Helen's DEA 'Record Census Data (UK)' v1.4: Screenshot 2021-10-09 155057.jpg This is despite not having any characters out of the ordinary in any of my text fields? Screenshot 2021-10-09 155115.jpg I also note that this error does not ...

Re: DEA Plugin Issue
DEAs typically constrain (1)which source types they will work with (i.e. which templates the sources must be based on), and (2) which fields must be completed within the template for the DEA to be able to function. So is it a matter of the user doing trial and error to work out which fields need to...

FamilySearch Id
As I understand it, Family Historian does not currently synch or work with FamilySearch at all. And yet when I was digging through the Data Reference Assistant (customising my property box), I noticed that under the 'Miscellaneous' folder there is an option for 'FamilySearch Id'. What would be the p...

Re: DEA Plugin Issue
I am very interested in hearing more experienced users' responses to your query, as I have had some of the same issues. The way I got the census DEA to work with my custom census source templates was to add fields for region, year, location, address and head of household -- once I added those, the c...

Re: Linking shared research notes to multiple individuals
Sarah, reiterating what Mike has said but with a slightly different emphasis: In the All tab apply the Ctrl+C to the words Research Note on the left in blue (not the Text Link on the right). Then in the other Individual record All tab, apply Ctrl+V to the person's name top left. Ah, okay, that work...

Re: Resources for writing plugins/DEAs
The easy fix first (for autotext): Tools > Manage Autotext > Autotext for plugins Either: 1. Delete the errant autotext entries under Record Census Data (UK) -- it will be recreated the next time you use that autotext with your changes included (if it already exists, the plugin won't update it). Or...

Re: Resources for writing plugins/DEAs
A good first step might be to customise the census dea. Do you have a list of what you want to change and I can point you to where you should look. That is very generous, Helen, thank you! Your census DEA has been very helpful for me so far. Something I'd like to change is the ability to simply add...

Linking shared research notes to multiple individuals
I would like to know if there is a way to link multiple people to a shared research note in one go. I have begun using research notes more extensively in my new 'do-over' project (as opposed to keeping them in a separate document or program). In particular, I create a certain type of shared research...

Re: Resources for writing plugins/DEAs
The KB article Lua References and Library Modules points to some resources (free and otherwise). Sarah, I d...

Resources for writing plugins/DEAs
I would like to try my hand at writing some plugins/DEAs to support specific workflows I have for entering sources and facts from census, etc. I’ve tried a few of the various plugins and find them close but not exactly what I need, so I’d like to try writing my own. I have a little programming knowl...

Re: How to make a 'clean' project copy?
The standard Family Historian Export, can export excluding place, media, source and repository records. Obviously when you open the exported file in FH the place records will be recreated. .... but I don't think the standard FH Gedcom export can delete all facts, as required by Sarah. It has option...

Re: Best way to index my collection of church register images
This is coming way too late, but I thought I should add that Tropy would suit this purpose perfectly. It's open source and designed for historians who utilise a lot of primary source documents, manuscripts, etc. It's quite similar in aesthetic and functionality to Zotero, being supported by the same...

I would like to create a copy of one of my projects in order to do a 'source do-over' now that I'm more familiar with FH7 and the different ways my data is displayed in reports, diagrams, etc, and my resolution to become a method 1 source splitter. Ideally the copy would be identical except that sou...
