Text Scheme Expression for Occupation
Hi all, I am wanting to include the first (or preferred) occupation of an individual on a diagram using my custom text scheme. However, in instances where an individual's first occupation is that of "Scholar" (ie, because of censuses), I want the text scheme to show either the next occupation that i...

Re: Bare Bones Tree
If you mean as an extract or split from another tree that has all of those features (because there's nothing stopping you from creating a new file and only entering names and relationships), then check out this thread I raised a couple of years ago about making a 'clean' project copy: https://www.fh...

Working with diagrams, saved options, etc
Hi all, Something I have struggled to wrap my head around is the way that diagrams are managed and options saved, etc. I have read the help files, knowledge base and many FHUG posts, but it is still unclear to me... For example, if I create an All Relatives diagram, then change a bunch of settings (...

Re: Autotext Rich Text table formatting glitches
Hmm, when I do that, I just get black bullet points where the table edges would be?
EDIT: I have just experimented with producing a report for a test note, and when exported to HTML, the table does come out in correct HTML table tags. That is sufficient for my purposes

Re: Autotext Rich Text table formatting glitches
How does one examine the plain text version of a rich text table? I have often wondered if these were written in actual HTML code, which if they are would be very useful for export to other programs.

Re: Including update date in reports
I have been trying to implement YYYY-MM-DD dates in my Record Title Format source template field so that I can sort chronologically by editions of a newspaper. The following code works: {=Year(%SOUR.~DT-ISSUE_DATE%)}-{=Month(%SOUR.~DT-ISSUE_DATE%)}-{=Day(%SOUR.~DT-ISSUE_DATE%)} But when I try and in...

Re: Source templates
Fair enough, I agree that Templates would be a must,, if flexible, but I can not find a way to make them fit. In my case, after I edit a template (either a new one or copy), after the 1st save of that template I can not go back and successfully make edits that work, as it will be permanently stuck ...

Integration with Zotero
Hi all, Without knowing whether this is possible, I'm wondering if anyone has ever considered writing a plugin for FH7 to integrate with Zotero. My goal would be to have all references in one Zotero repository which can then be used in FH, Word, etc -- basically having them in an interchangeable for...

Re: Connecting multiple copies of same source database
Why don't you just cite what you use? The databases may be "copies" of one another, but it's impossible to know if they are identical. It won't cause FH any problems to have multiple copies of a same-name database for different repositories.

Re: Undo/redo in notes
I note that version 7.0.18 includes an update to the functionality of the notes window: Pressing ‘Undo’ in the Note Window sometimes caused more changes to be undone than one would expect. This has been fixed. It is incredible of Calico Pie to keep on top of things like this. I'm not sure if my foru...

Re: Undo/redo in notes
Thanks for all of your replies. I also appreciate the discussion regarding OK versus Apply. I'm not sure that comparing various text processing tools helps but here goes. Mike, I agree. However, the FH rich text functionality seems to try to replicate a word processing workflow, at least to a basic ...

Undo/redo in notes
I would like to keep all of my research (including notes) in FH, but I have been struggling with the undo/redo feature and was wondering if this is a bug... when I go about adding text to a note, I may need to undo to remove the last thing typed or copied/pasted. Sometimes it 'steps back' one correc...

Re: censuses - query with different values for an output column
I have a query, similar to the ones in this thread, that tells me if I have FH sources for births, baptisms, deaths, burials and Censuses. I run the query, which I "Save as Comma-Separated (CSV) file". I then open the exported file and cut and paste the data into a pre-formatted Excel Spreadsheet a...

Re: Reasearch Notes - How do I use them?
Glenn, Like with everything else in FH, you can use Research Notes for anything you like. You're not restricted to using the pre-defined templates (Log, Tasks, etc) either. Have you studied the Knowledge Base article on Research Notes ? You may also find this thread and/or this thread useful. I shar...

Re: Force DEA to run without setting required fields
No to all of these — although the date (year) of census is always the first four characters of the “Head” and “Short” fields. And I don’t expect to use any censuses outside of England, so that can be hard coded. You can see my fields (and the template I’m using, albeit slightly modified) in the OP.

Re: Force DEA to run without setting required fields
Ok -- I should have checked. You'll need to initialise the values that are derived from the required fields -- dtDate, sRegionName, sPlace (lines 71 to 100). If your template supports them in different fields, use those fields otherwise set them to sensible defaults (not sure what you'd set dtDate ...

Re: A plea for Updated V7 Video Tutorials Please please…please
I sympathasise with your struggles as a visual learner myself. I think you would be wise to watch (or re-watch) Jane Taubman's video tutorials posted on YT. Admittedly they are for version 6 of the program, but the principles are the same. She used source-driven data entry in her video on recording ...

Re: A plea for Updated V7 Video Tutorials Please please…please
I would argue that these are issues stemming from a broader misunderstanding/limited knowledge of sources and citations in genealogy, and not as a result of missing video tutorials for FH7. There are a lot of resources out there to help you distinguish between sources, citations, evidence, informati...

Force DEA to run without setting required fields
Hi all, Is it possible to force a DEA (such as the Record Census Data (UK) DEA) to run from a prepared citation window without setting the required fields (region, year, head of household, location)?
