Re: Bug in hyperlinks in narrative reports

All,

This is why I created my export to Markdown wishlist item just recently (viewtopic.php?f=43&t=21793). Perhaps it could be expanded to include other “open source” formats like ODF and DOCX?

Re: Bug in hyperlinks in narrative reports

Thanks for your explanation, as always, Mike.

I guess I will leave it for the time being. I have added a wishlist post regarding the export of reports, etc, to Markdown format, which may solve my problem. There are workarounds in the meantime.

Re: Bug in hyperlinks in narrative reports

But that's exactly my point - I've specified that field to be italics and another one to be a URL. So why can the latter not be formatted as such (a hyperlink) in the produced footnote?

Re: Bug in hyperlinks in narrative reports

...in the Source Citation display those fields are clickable links. Do you mean this screen? If so, yes, the URL is clickable via the little arrow on that field. But in the formatted source citation on right, the URL is not displayed as a hyperlink. However, the Footnote is plain text... Surely not...

[Wish List entry 601] Export to Markdown

I like to write my research and individual notes using Markdown (.md) so that I can export them and use them in other programs. While it is currently possible to export reports in .txt format, it would be great to be able to export them in .md so that the citations and style codes are produced corre...

Re: Use of <whole record> and Name source citations

My point was that the regular reports (not the webpages) don't appear to use hyperlinked footnotes, so they aren't available to be extracted by a post-editing program like Scrivener. A related wishlist item which could be expanded to include hyperlinked footnotes when exporting to RTF/HTML: https:/...

Re: Bug in hyperlinks in narrative reports

I am running version 7.0.19 and having a similar problem with URLs in source citations when exporting reports to either RTF or PDF format. According to the version log, this should've been fixed in 7.0.9 for RTFs: If you export a report in Rich Text Format (RTF) any clickable links (e.g. web links) ...

Re: Use of <whole record> and Name source citations

Yes that's right. You can choose to omit the <whole record> citations but you can't choose to omit the Name citations. Thank you, Lorna - and everyone else for the interesting discussion and responses to my query. I have also consulted a couple of other forum postings related to this: https://www.f...

Re: Use of whole record and name source citations

That's helpful - thanks, Mark. I have just tested the report options in this regard and discovered something... If "List 'Whole Record' Source Citations against Individual's Name" is not checked, and I have an individual with <whole record> but not Name source citations, no source citations are prin...

Re: Use of whole record and name source citations

Yes, I agree with your thoughts and the conceptual idea of citing a source against the fact which it supports. In a lot of cases, the source citations I'm adding to the whole record and name elements are to support that a person has a certain relationship (parental or otherwise) - perhaps I should b...

Use of <whole record> and Name source citations

Hi all, As a matter of course, I have always added source citations to an individiual's whole record and name. But now that I am starting to create some output from my project in the form of reports, I notice that this results in a 'messy' look because there are so many superscript numbers against a...

Re: Hiding personal info in a citation template

Gary, I've really been enjoying reading your posts and seeing you work through the issues to adhere to EE as much as possible from within FH7. Personally, I decided that there is probably never an instance where I would want my address (or anyone's) published in any output I create, so I have left m...

Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7

You would be surprised by what ORA can extract, and the programmer John is very responsive to requests to add/update websites on his ORA-L forum. The scripting language is very powerful, and at the very least you could use it to extract basic invariant information like website name, URL, access date...

Re: Template Design Preview

I would also love to see this added to FH. I have become pretty quick at editing a source template definition, synching it with my current project and then creating a source to test the results, but it is still time-consuming and cumbersome when all of that could be done from within the source templ...

Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7

Gary, You might like to check out the Clone Any Record plugin, which is an alternate way of duplicating a source (other than using the option in the Automatic Source Citation pane). I've only just discovered it and will be playing around to see if it is quicker than ASC for my workflow. In terms of ...

Thanks, John - that works perfectly. I've now added an additional custom column to Jane's query to be able to sort my matches from most to least shared DNA.

Re: Recording DNA matches in Family Historian

I am testing out this fact and query since the discussion in the other thread about MRCAs. I've noticed that the query result set sorts 'alphabetically', which is a problem if I want to sort on the Overlap column from largest to smallest match (or vice versa) based on cM. Is there a way to have FH s...

Re: Clarification Requested re: Source Driven Data Entry

My preferred approach is to link a media item to a source from the perspective of the source (I am mostly a splitter). Then that media item can be linked elsewhere if required (to an individual or a place record, for example). I have often wondered if it is necessary/overkill to also include a sourc...

Re: MCRA query for more than one person

I am also interested in this as I have chosen to use flags for my DNA matches as opposed to Jane's DNA fact and accompanying query. One thing I have been able to achieve is a text scheme expression for my boxes which includes the relationship between a DNA match and the test-taker, though this doesn...

Re: Templates, titles, and footnotes

Yes, I definitely suggest you play around with the different source templates, how the footnotes look, etc, using either the example project included with FH or your own 'working' copy of a project. There have been many a topic posted on this forum about creating EE-compliant sources which you may w...

Re: Text Scheme Expression for Occupation

I know what the funcion does; I was just wondering why it was required here. Both you and laz_gen have now answered that, so thank you. If I am consistent throughout my project in recording the occupation as "Scholar" (rather than "scholar" or "sChOlar"), can my text scheme expression simply be clos...

Re: Templates, titles, and footnotes

I found the same issue regarding the source templates included with version 7 created by Calico Pie. They seem on first inspection to be EE-compliant, but they actually require heavy editing to generate correct citations. And like you have discovered, many of the ready-made fields are there but do n...

Re: Text Scheme Expression for Occupation

You don't need another Text Scheme Item, just use the 'No Data' Text: tick box and enter (No Occupation) there in the same item as your Template expression. Of course! So obvious once you mentioned it. BTW: Do you need to cope with both 'Scholar' and 'scholar' or any other case variant? I use consi...

Re: Text Scheme Expression for Occupation

Thank you, Mike. I think I've wrapped my head around it now -- I was overthinking the use of the =CombineText function. My solution is now simply: (=TextIf(%INDI.OCCU% = "Scholar",%INDI.OCCU[2]%,%INDI.OCCU[preferred]%)) I also have an alt. text scheme item which just outputs "(No Occupation)" if the...
