Re: Relationships
I've just had a play around with captions, expressions and data references, and this is the closest I could come to distinguishing maternal/paternal lines: =TextIf(DnaBloodRelation(Record(2),%INDI%), "Paternal", "Maternal") where record ID 2 represents my father. The only problem is that now my husb...

Re: How to duplicate sources
I achieve the same result as Bill but by using the "Clone Source Record..." option when the Automatic Source Citations panel is active. No plugin required.

Horizontal scrolling keyboard shortcut
A universal keyboard shortcut for horizontal scrolling is the SHIFT key in conjunction with moving the mouse wheel. However, this is not possible in the FH records window (and possibly query result sets as well?). I would like to be able to scroll horizontally using the SHIFT key and mouse wheel in ...

Re: Occupation icons in Diagrams
Roger, From what I understand, you must iterate through all of the possible occupations manually by index, so my guess would be adding additional expressions which refer to %INDI.OCCU[2]%,"miner",STD , %INDI.OCCU[3]%,"miner",STD , etc, in order to capture all possible occupations of a person. I supp...

Re: Rich text editor - keyboard shortcuts?
Thanks for your reply, Jane. Would a plugin like that work for records where there is already an existing note/research note and simply append the required text to the end or in a specific location? I use a note to create a chronology based on each record I find, but everything is contained with a s...

Re: Oddity when pasting Footnote text from FH to word processor
Yes - I realize that, however it's then annoying to have to delete that word for 10-20 citations...However, at least I now know it's not just me. I'll report it to CP and see what they say. A workaround is to start the selection at the end of the word Footnote instead of the start of the next line....

Re: Oddity when pasting Footnote text from FH to word processor
I tested this with a couple of my different citation formats (all based on custom source template definitions) and noticed that it only occurs where there is an italicised section. For example, the following copied fine into Word: England, death registration, James Hallett, 30 April 1874; registered...

Rich text editor - keyboard shortcuts?
Does anyone know if these menus in the rich text editor can be navigated to using the keyboard (specifically citations and hashtags)? I know the normal formatting options (bold, italics, etc) can be toggled on/off using keyboard shortcuts, and that links can be added using the context menu (Shift+F1...

Re: Adding sources without templates
Rosemary, perhaps a visual aid would help you with understanding sources and citations in FH7. In that case, I highly recommend this YouTube video (which coincidentally was created by the author of Ancestral Sources!). It is an excellent overview of how sources and citations work and might help you ...

Remember property box panel sizing
On the property box, I would like to keep the size of fact details minimised so that I can see as many timeline events as possible. However, when I drag the dotted section up/down between the timeline and fact details (date, place, etc), FH does not appear to remember this and always reverts to the ...

Re: Property box panel size not remembered
Thanks all. I have now raised a ticket with CP for investigation.
EDIT: Support have stated that this is "not a bug" as the feature is "working as designed". They have passed it on to the devs for evaluation and also suggested that I raise a wish list item here, which I will do.

Re: Creating a Source Template
You need to enter something in the four fields of the Source Template Definition Editor: Record Title Format, Bibliography Format, Footnote Format and Short Footnote Format (see example in screenshot). Otherwise there is nothing to "print" for your source citation, and hence I assume why your fields...

Thanks, Neil - hopefully others can recreate the "problem" as well. As for the symbols, I added them as part of the summary template for various facts. Property box panel size not remembered
On the property box, I would like to keep the size of fact details minimised so that I can see as many timeline events as possible. However, when I drag the dotted section down (circled in red), FH does not appear to remember this and always expands back to the maximum possible size after some time....

Re: Unknown Relations
Is there currently a workaround to sort individual records in the records window so that those with a blank Ahnentafel number (or surname) are at the bottom? I tried playing around with a custom column for sorting purposes based on the below, but couldn't get it to work reliably... Going back to the...

Re: Short Title for Source in Automatic Source Citation Pane?
I would really love this part of FH to be improved and a bit more user friendly with standard keyboard shortcuts... the selection of a source in the ACS pane relies on one typing the first few (correct) letters of its source title (as opposed to any letters that may appear in it, or acting more like...

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
I asked about an objective definition of splitting . In my world, if one follows the EE method then one is a splitter. Since you are striving for EE compliant sourcing, that would seem to make you a splitter. That seems to be a sentiment echoed in other forums, but Elizabeth Shown Mills herself has...

Re: Source & media naming
As a splitter, I have included enough fields in the record title that I rarely encounter two sources with the same name. In the case that I do have a source with the same record title as another, I will manually edit it (by un-selecting the autogeneration option) and add some sort of qualifier to di...

Re: Bug in hyperlinks in narrative reports
I agree that Markdown is underutilised. I've worked in a couple of different editors, Obsidian predominantly, but the main reason I like .md is that it is independent of software (although, as with the discussion above, DOCX is basically ubiquitous at this point!). When I want to produce output from...

Re: What meta-fields can be used in Footnotes and Bibliographies?
Remember, you can have as many Repository metafields in a template as you like. Even generic Source records can have two Repository links. So you could have one Repository for the location and another Repository for each Collection. Mike; I understand what you are saying, but I want to tread...

Re: What meta-fields can be used in Footnotes and Bibliographies?
Gary, I think we have discussed elsewhere my approach to invariant source citation elements from a splitter perspective. I use a combination of ORA and then, within FH, the Clone Any Record plugin (although I have found its use a bit cumbersome and would love to make some changes if I knew Lua!) and...
