Re: Is it possible to customize the Fact Tab layout area?
I had voted on item 557 more than a year ago, but went ahead and added a comment. What I'm talking about here would be a small subset of what is being requested in that wishlist item, but you're right, they are related.

Is it possible to customize the Fact Tab layout area?
I have chosen to not use the Address field, and have disabled it in all of my fact definitions. The result is an empty wasted space between the Place field and the Note field. screenshot_20220316_ 162810.png I would like to get rid of that empty space and be able to maximize the vertical space avail...

Re: Two Computers, One Set of FH data files
I have 2 PCs. One is a laptop and the other a desktop with a huge screen. The laptop is in my office and the desktop is in what passes for a library on a different floor. Is it possible to install FH on the laptop and have my files on the laptop, and also install FH on the desktop and have that ins...

Re: Facts with active URL
Oooh, exciting! I had looked at the "Auto-Create Note" field on the advanced tab of fact definitions thinking that maybe there was some way to use that for this purpose, couldn't figure it out at first glance, then got distracted by all of the other things I need to learn. At some point in my explor...

Re: Facts with active URL
OK, going to give it a go at explaining what I'm imagining, hope this makes sense. Premise : Good capabilities from other programs maybe could get added to FH and made even more useful because FH is clearly the best. Legacy 9.0 Feature to emulate : In Legacy, at the bottom of the individual screen a...

Re: Facts with active URL
I just spent about 30 minutes writing a detailed reply, hit preview, got a 403 error and now it's all gone. So I'm mad at myself for not copying first. I realize what I put in that prior message was unclear, it wasn't the right place to provide detail. I'm going to go get "un mad" at myself, perhaps...

Re: FamilySearch Id
Whether that falls within the scope of what CP intended for that field is anyone's guess. Yep. ;) I recall noticing that "future magic" field before I did my final import from RM, it made me happy to see! Also having seen CP's comment about having Internet Data Matches with more providers, I was ho...

Re: FamilySearch Id
Can't speak for how the "direct RM import" brings things across, but the GEDCOM import from RM contained the _FSFTID fact type, which was identified as UDF.
I used the Change Any Fact Tag plugin to change them from UDF to a custom fact I created, now I have the FS ID show up on the fact tab.

Re: Ability to Change Type of Fact
Results of quick test: ORIGINAL section in property box order, TARGET section in alphabetical order makes perfect sense and is intuitive. Plugin only runs if property box is open, facts tab doesn't have to be selected. This makes sense, but maybe eventually add an error msg if someone tries to run i...

Re: Ability to Change Type of Fact
I am in awe of you coding types! To already have some sort of mockup and have investigated how to make a plugin for it, just incredible. I'm moderately capable of adapting or troubleshooting some code, but creating from scratch is just not compatible with the way my brain works. At any rate, I do se...

Ability to Change Type of Fact
Would like to be able to quickly and easily change a fact from being one type to being a different type. Limitation of not changing family facts to individual facts or an attribute fact to an event fact would be expected. For example: Change Occupation attribute to Employment attribute Change Christ...

Re: Import from TMG, Name-Variation lost Given Name
Oh my, I've fallen down quite the rabbit hole with this, and I don't think I have any solution for you, just maybe a bit of explanation - particularly why my results are different from yours. In TMG, all those years ago, when I created a married name for a woman, I only input the new Surname, and pl...

Re: Import from TMG, Name-Variation lost Given Name
I converted from TMG to RM quite a few years ago, and from RM to FH just this year, and have a little bit of insight on the multiple name topic that I can share, it might be helpful. First , by way of reassurance, most likely none of your information is LOST, it's simply not "front and center" visib...

Re: Export GEDCOM plugin: fact flag handling
I don't see myself ever doing double exports as a part of a standard procedure. I use the Export GEDCOM plugin as the alternative to the FH standard one, not a supplement, so for now I'll just delete the private facts on TNG afterwards.
Thanks for the prompt response, and the excellent plugin!

Export GEDCOM plugin: fact flag handling
I hate even mentioning a problem/enhancement request on this plugin, it's really so amazing and helpful, but I haven't seen any discussion of this yet, so thought I'd bring it up. Fact flags being a new feature, I'm sure not too many people use them all that much, but this will probably change. I th...

Re: Import RootsMagic 7 into Family Historian 7
Just a reminder when you're working up the plugin code - for folks (like me) who keep media outside of the FH file structure, our duplicate media items will indeed link to the exact same filename, so while allowing for the (1) and (2) stuff, you'll need to include the exact duplicate as well.

Re: Import RootsMagic 7 into Family Historian 7
Another update on the issue of duplicated media on import. Version 7.0.4.0 is the fix to the problem for new imports. I haven't tested it yet (downloading now). That's GREAT news. Now for the less great news: "The fix only affects new imports. It doesn't correct the duplicate Media records in projec...

Re: Where did my family sources (proof of parentage) go?
Just beginning to look at this, but so far, I see that the RM GEDCOM creates 1 NOTE, 1 SOUR, and/or 1 OBJE items under the family 0 @F###@ records. Thus these are notes, sources, and media for the family record, not specifically about a particular child/parent relationship. In RM that's clear, they ...

Re: Rootsmagic->Family Historian
Curt, In RM-speak, the difference between an event and an attribute is nothing more than whether or not the description field is enabled or not. If there is something in the description field, the FH import will create an attribute, if not, it's an event. You will end up with events and attributes t...

Re: Duplicate Media Records
I have received word from FH Support that they are indeed working to improve the gedcom import process so that multiple media records don't get created. That's great news, for new folks! Doesn't help those who have already done their import and have all the duplicated media. Looks like a plugin that...

Re: Import RootsMagic 7 into Family Historian 7
Update on the "Duplicated Media upon import" issue. I reported the problem to FH support, the ticket was "closed, ACTIVE". I politely asked if "active" meant that a solution might be coming within six months or so, allowing me to wait and not pursue a manual fix to the problem. I just got word back ...

Re: RM to FH: how to convert UDF item to fact flag - preferred, private
Oh well, best to know rather than not know, I'll add it to the list of needed plugins. First one is the plugin to convert all but the first name into alt name attributes, second will be this fact flag conversion. Learning LUA will have to come after I make the final RM import. The great news is that...

RM to FH: how to convert UDF item to fact flag - preferred, private
In RootsMagic we mark events as Primary or Private as needed, FH7 now has the same concept with the Fact Flags "preferred" and "private". The plugin UDF list gives me the list of those items, screenshot attached. screenshot_20210324_004.png Is there a way to create a query that could find those item...
