Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
I am succeeding at clearing out data in the many Attributes I Have (Events will be next). And after, I can usually go into Fact Types and delete them. That said, some will not delete: “One or more selected items were marked as “undefined” . . . .One or more placeholders has instances and consequentl...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
All very helpful thoughts and advice. Thanks I apologize for not answering on import. The story is actually not simple. I had a base Roots file, moved through 2 pieces of software that went out of business to TMG. I did the TMG move to FH over a year ago, and followed whatever was the advice at the ...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
I am not sure how much this a question or if I am just sharing some humor. I have at least 45 immigration fields, but know they are more not titled obviously. I found a record, where each time they moved around the US to a new state, someone entered an immigration event. In the US, we would just cal...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
Thanks. Just what I needed to know. Only Fact Sets are "Custom", "Standard", and "extended Set" . . so does not look like they are designated. Will have to suffer with the confusion until I can dedicate the time to the clean up. Personally, as someone who has designed databases, I am thinking you do...

Thanks again. Yes I had found that help, but apparently did not absorb it all.
That Delete "X' is subtle .
There is a lot to learn, . . . . and perhaps I should have taken up trying to "finish" my dad's genealogy project when I was a little younger and sharper

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
Excellent, again very helpful, and thank you. Of course, one of my challenges is going in to create a Query and seeing many similar fields created by people. See attached sample. 1) Any tips about how I could spot the FH Attributes and Events, when in the Query window? I have noticed that often, it ...

Re: Perhaps an Event with 2 date fields (plotting immigration)
Thank you all. This is perfect. I do have to consolidate the many "immigration" fields I have in Events and Attributes. But I tested this on one of them in Events (by creating a Test Person, it appears to be the official intended FH Immigration field) and it seemed to work perfectly. And actually, i...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
Sorry, one additional question . . .
I also have many fields in Events and Attributes for birth, etc. Makes it difficult for me to tell where any of the standard FH fields are being stored. Could you perhaps point me to a list that shows which things are events and which are attributes.
thanks!
Trent

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
Thanks to you both!! . . knowing how to post screen shots will help. And that is very helpful to know where "Residence" is supposed to be. Since I have a file that I have had to transfer through several programs over the past 20 years and it has imports from different people, I have many Event Field...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
Thanks I had created my own queries, adding every event in a Column that had a title related to Reside . . . . But now, I just tried the All Events Query you suggested, and I still do not see the many records mentioned after I ran the change facts plugin. This query did make it easy to see I have al...

Perhaps an Event with 2 date fields (plotting immigration)
I want to clean up and enter immigration information for many ancestors and then export to plot the data. I don’t have immigration dates for most ancestors. However, I can narrow down a range of years. E.g. Immigration must be after they were born in England and before they died in America, If a mot...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
wait, on the last item, I just thought of another test. In Windows, instead of "End Task", I selected "Maximize", and the dialog popped up. Apparently it came up behind something else. I had suspected this, but the system was not allowing me to minimize other windows to check. But I do have what is ...

Re: Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
Thanks so much. And your suspicion was correct, my Events and Attributes lists, when I go to do a query, are filled with dozens of junk 1-use events and attributes. I can see in Query how to clean them out (I double click on event and delete from Property Box). But when I go to Tools Fact Types, eve...

Cleaning up Events and Attributes After Import Question
I have imported Gedcoms from multiple sources. And with them came a few things I need/want to clean up. For example: 1) there are dozens of custom events created that were used for only one record. I would have put this information in "Notes" rather than creating so many 1 use Events. I have done a ...

Re: Simple Query Problem - error with Contains Operator? in Query
Thank you both so much! I now see my error on the field name. I also see the challenge on "England" . . . which you correctly anticipated was my next search. My father entered ~9000 records in the 90s and I have imported other records from a variety of people. My task now is "clean up". I have to do...

Re: Adding Flags to Main Tab in Property Box
Thank you both so much for your Replies. I succeeded in getting 2 Flags on a first row, and 2 Flags on a second row. I Have tried playing around with the Alignment Groups, but even though there is a ton of room, I can't seem to get more than 2 flags on a row. I am guessing this is something that can...

Adding Flags to Main Tab in Property Box
I heard this was possible, and have read the Knowledge base item and searched this 2 different days. I must be slow, but i can't seem to find Flags anywhere in the Customize Property Box Pop-up.
Thanks
Thanks

Simple Query Problem - error with Contains Operator? in Query
Just starting on Queries (but I have experience with Boolean Queries). Wanted to find my Palatine immigrant Ancestors, so wanted to search for all people born in Germany during a certain time period, but who did not die in Germany. So I started with . . . Add if %INDI.BIRT[1].PLAC>% contains 'German...

Ancestor Chart Format - lines to repeated ancestors
I am guessing I can't find this answer because I don't know what they are called. But on my ancestor family tree I have a lot of colored lines that run through the tree to avoid repeating ancestors when they appear in more than one location on the tree. I assume there is a way to turn this off and l...

Cropping Pictures to standard aspect ratio
I may just not be able to find this, but . . . I am a new user who has imported his father's very large TMG database and I am starting to add photos. I have worked with digital photo editing since the early 90s, so I am not an amateur. The question that immediately occurred to me in adding media, is...

Does FH (6 or 7) output PDF, or PDF/A?
I have been trying to keep my father's ~9000 person database active. I am hoping to clean it up (after moves from several earlier programs, Roots through TMG) and output to a PDF version that could "last" for many years. I understand PDF/A was created as a "safe" version for archiving purposes (embe...
