Re: 1841 census showing children who were dead
I had similar on a 1911 census schedule. I assumed it happened because the father had to enter the number of children born in the marriage, and irrespective of the number still alive, perhaps assumed he had to name all those who were born, still alive or not. I amended the fact sentence to include n...

Re: Findmypast 1921 census discount
When viewing the household image (schedule) on FMP, there is a link to additional information/address or a similarly named button (I'm not at my PC right now to check exactly what the link button is called). Clicking on it will open a "filmstrip" of additional related document images, which can be v...

Re: Grandad's multiple (old) certificates
A bit of googling found this, from Hansard, debated on Monday 27th February 1928: Mr. C. EDWARDS asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that children entering the elementary schools or when seeking employment can, by filling up a prescribed form, obtain a birth certificate...

This is another - my grandmother's, issued for the purposes of the Factory and Workshop Act, 1901 when she was thirteen.
The declaration on the reverse, completed and signed by her father, stated that it was "required to enable her to go into service".

I am using Jane's GEDmatch fact and query, albeit with a minor amendment to the query and a modified fact note, with additional fields and an autotext template grid for the matching chromosome information, where it is available. https://www.taubman.org.uk/family/wp/2019/03/13/recording-dna-matches-i...

Re: are the same couple married twice 7 Years apart?
I have two similar examples in my tree, one involving my great-grandparents. In both cases, one party to the marriage was still married to someone else, despite declaring to the contrary, rendering the marriages bigamous. They married again after the death of the "inconvenient" party, not necessaril...

I'm also a splitter, and although I use Ancestral Sources a lot, when entering several generic sources of the same type, particularly relatively simple sources from the same register (by that I mean with fairly concise and similar information in each record, that is easy to transcribe and alter by e...

Re: GRO & FreeBMD sources - how to demerge B, M & D
With the risk that I am missing something obvious, and bearing in mind that I only use generic source records, this is how I record BMD sources. Title: Birth (or Death) SMITH, Arthur 1905 Q2 Bingham, Nottinghamshire or for marriages, Title: Marriage SMITH, Albert & JONES, Ada 1925 Q2 Basford, Nottin...

Re: Death date records - which should I believe?
I agree with Nick. I have about half a dozen deaths in my project where there is an inconsistency of several days between the death certificate and the death date inscribed on a gravestone, or recorded elsewhere. It is impossible to know which might be correct, although depending on the circumstance...

I don't use templated sources, but have you edited the source titles for each type of source in the individual source setting pages for each type of source being created? e.g. from AS menus>Tools>Options and edit the source title options templates for census, birth, baptism, marriage etc. as require...

Re: BMD District, Sub-district and County.
You can create a template with the desired headings included, but I don't think it is possible to autofill the registration district and sub-district locations, as that would require associated input fields to be written into the AS BMD input screens, as otherwise AS has no knowledge of that informa...

Re: Addresses and commas after house numbers.
Hmm, a lot of food for thought there. I'm beginning to see the light. I found it much easier to understand the necessity for consistency in the place filed though. I admit to having made a conscious decision from the start to always use "Road" and "Street" etc. rather than abbreviations in the addre...

Or just France and France - that is less error-prone, and have ,,France as the standard name. In my experience, absolute consistency is more difficult to achieve with addresses than with places. I have a family variously recorded as living at 4 Crescent Cottages, Crescent Cottages, 4 Crescent Cotta...

Re: Addresses and commas after house numbers.
Consistency is important for future searches and analysis, even if you have no use for it at present. That crops up regularly in these Forums, and inconsistent data can be a stumbling block. Take a look at Tools > Work with Data > Addresses... and review how your address columns are presented. It i...

Thanks both of you. Mick, I probably wasn't explicit enough in my original post. I'm quite happy with the consistency of...

They have also altered the behaviour of the camera icon in My Records. It now takes you back to the FMP viewer and filmstrip, from where you can access the additional materials if you neglected to do so originally. Previously, it would only offer to download the original image to your device.

Ruth, If it is of use to you (or anyone else) I've changed the short-title of the "Marriage or Orphanhood" column, as it appears in the data input box and text from source, to "Marr/Orph'd". I've also added a drop-down for "None" to the number of children under 16 column, which I realised was previo...
