Re: How to add a citation to a family relationship
Thanks again for the reply. There is something here that I do not understand. You say: You cite that source against each of the individuals concerned to "prove" that the relationship exists. Similarly Mike says in an earlier post above: I think most FH users set the Citation against the Father's <w...

Re: How to add a citation to a family relationship
You say that "there is no 'relationship fact' as such to create a specific relationship between two individuals". I accept that in FH7 there is not. But in life there are relationship facts: DNA testing will establish them, and documents such as the one I have described will refer to them. In FH7 i...

Re: How to add a citation to a family relationship
Jeremy, there may be several ways of doing what you require. I can only tell you what I do. It works for me, but whether it is right or wrong, and whether you choose to follow or choose another path is your decision. The way I see it, you have a source (marriage certificate) which shows the names of...

Re: Step sister
For what it's worth, I've just checked my file and have eight instances of "PEDI Step (father)" and "PEDI Birth (mother)", most of which existed prior to conversion from V6 to V7, and (touchwood) I have had no such issues.

Re: Couple of minor issues with 7.1.3
Where the reference goes is configurable in the options settings, at least for method 1 entries. I'm still on 7.1.2 so can't comment on a 7.1.3 issue, but I haven't seen any problems with the marriage reference populating the auto text field in 7.1.2 (or prior versions). I don't use the rich text te...

Re: Step sister
I have several similar instances in my tree, including my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother who were both "fostered". Because in each instance, they spent more time living with their "second" family, be that their natural mother and subsequent step-father or a completely new family, I in...

Re: Recording DNA matches in Family Historian
Thanks Jane. I did wonder whether having the text in a table would affect the operation of the query. Probably best left as it is then, although I might investigate inserting an AutoText table for any cM match information.

Re: Recording DNA matches in Family Historian
Jane, thank you for this. I have just started down the road of investigating the DNA aspect of my tree, and this seems to be the best solution to recording information within FH that I have found. Whilst I have decided to resist utilising tables and rich text formatting in FH7 in general, to retain ...
Re: GRO query
I have seen similar "duplicates". For example, this marriage from my tree. Sybil MARBURY and Sybil HUMPHRIES are the same person. She was born out of wedlock and her mother Mary MANSELL registered her birth under the name of what I believe to be a totally fictitious father, who she declared to be de...

Re: FH7 report paragraph fix - new version v7.0.1.1
Has anyone else found the FH7 installers seem to sit doing nothing for a minute or so before and after the green progress bar starts and completes? I ran the 7.0.1.3 installer with Task Manager open. It started with a message to the effect that it was creating folders, but sat at around 1.6% CPU and...

Re: FH7 Source Rec - Column Width
FWIW I installed FH 7.0.1.3 this morning. The Fact tab column widths all reverted to default following the update, but having reset them to my preference they are sticking to my requirements again between closing and re-opening FH. The Source Rec column width still isn't remembered if resized though...

Re: FH7 Source Rec - Column Width
I think you are mistaken about FH V6.2.7 remembering Facts tab column widths because I have FH V6 still installed and those widths do NOT survive close & reopen. Hmm, that's strange, because one of the first things I noticed when I started using FH7 was that the note icons, which i had adjusted to ...

Re: FH7 Source Rec - Column Width
Yes Mike, I'm on 7.0.1.2. They were remembered in FH6 as well. I did notice that they had gone back to default when I installed 7.0.0.1 and remember resetting them to my liking on more than one occasion, so it's quite probable they weren't being remembered in that version. The Source Rec column widt...

Re: FH7 Source Rec - Column Width
Can't you fix that by altering the width of the property box and/or using the slider bars in the title bar to reduce the "Citation (Text: Source Record)" column width slightly or widen the "Source Rec" column width, by dragging the title bar slider to the right? I've done similar with the columns in...

Re: Fact Sentences that use "Aged"
How do other users deal with ages that are obviously inconsistent or wrong? I am in the habit of recording an age in the age field whenever it is shown in a source record, even if it is incorrect, as a record of what was recorded in the original document. If no age is stated, I leave the field blank...

Re: FH7 report paragraph fix - new version v7.0.1.1
Nice theory on the 'released' updates, which would hold well if the new versions were clearly identified as 'test builds', which some developers do, but I'm afraid that it falls down very quickly, because the fact is that if anyone who downloads the 'current' version (as at 24 Jan 2021) from https:...

Helen, I only received a link that gave me a direct download of the build that CP believed had fixed the bug I reported. I've just looked at the email again in case I missed it and there's no link to a list of fixed bugs, so you must be "special"

Re: FH7 report paragraph fix - new version v7.0.1.1
I suspect that the current "updates" are interim builds fixing various bugs that have been reported, as there have been posts on here indicating that CP have sent links to the new builds to users who had reported specific bugs. That's my experience. I was informed that a bug I reported had been iden...

Re: Question marks appearing in text
Nick, I was just suggesting that I think the build of FH7 may be involved. FH7 v7.0.1.2 is now the version offered on the download link on the FH website. Obviously it is entirely up to Lorna whether she wishes to install it, but it might confirm whether it resolves what she is seeing one way or the...

Re: Question marks appearing in text
Nick, mine is Rich Text edit Control, v7.5 (v6.3.9600.18818) dated 8th September 2017 and Word v2002 (semi-annual enterprise channel) although as I said, Word has been nowhere near my problem note. So I don't think that .dll has changed recently, but I can no longer recreate the issue with spurious ...

Re: Question marks appearing in text
This is the text of the note retrieved from my old gedcom file. The start and end quotation marks are clearly different, and you can see the "long" hyphens. This text now displays correctly for me when pasted into a note in 7.0.1.2 so perhaps it is a fixed bug that was present in an earlier build? N...

Re: Question marks appearing in text
The issue I experienced was with text that I copied from a website and pasted into a note in FH6. I know it displayed correctly in FH6, but I subsequently noticed that in FH7 it was displayed both in the Propert Box and separate note window with a question mark immediately after a pair of leading an...
