Re: New Look FreeBMD

This is interesting. I have seem something similar mentioned on another site but I have not experienced this problem myself. I see a banner advert at the top and a smaller one at the bottom but if I scroll so that I can see all the search boxes, neither of those are visible on the screen. https://i....

See how_to:remember_current_records_being_updated|> Remember Current Records being Updated for ways of doing this in FH6. (We can't predict how FH7 will handle this.)
I knew it would be there somewhere but didn't know what words to search for. Thank you for the pointer.

A quick question. Can FH re-open on last person used?

Good morning all

Could somebody tell me if there is a setting to make the programme re-open on the person that you left it on when you closed it?

In praise of named lists!

As the title says, I just wanted to say how much I like the Named Lists :) I've only had FH for a few weeks so I've been working my way through it's facilities and it's been a good learning curve. I had used the named lists a bit but yesterday I read the instructions properly and realised what the b...

Re: Using the Named List Pane

Ah, cracked it! Sorry to have wasted your time but I think I have worked it out. If I start with the Records window, open the named list then right click on an individual then the Records window disappears. I don't like to use the full screen width on my monitor so I have the screen set on reduced s...

Re: Using the Named List Pane

But there have been times when I have just had the Named List on the left and after I right click a name and select Properties I have just those two panes. But I can't work out how to replicate it.

And now I've tried your Tile vertically suggestion, how do I undo that?

Using the Named List Pane

I started writing this last night but got in a real muddle trying to replicate the problem so I could describe it in detail. This morning I have been round in a circles again but still haven't worked it out. In short, when I want to use the Named List Pane, I often get this arrangement on the screen...

  That sounds way more complicated than I am ready for! I'll plod on as I am for now until I feel confident enough to tackle that.

Re: Looking for a 'work flow chart' for making corrections

No, sorry, I can't find out how to do that. How do I list just the Head of Households?

Re: Looking for a 'work flow chart' for making corrections

Thanks, Mike Regarding the Named List , it might be easier to only list the Head of household for each Census schedule. Then it is easy to work through the list deleting one person at a time. The other members of the household will automatically get included when using AS , and with the above method...

Looking for a 'work flow chart' for making corrections

Sorry, that's a rubbish thread title but I couldn't get it into a nutshell. I have started working with Ancestral Sources to correct and improve the sources and citations that I have from previously using Family Tree Maker linked to Ancestry. I know what I am trying to achieve but I can't work out a...

Re: Occupation and Multiple references

Good morning. I’m new to FH, too, but I would suggest that you scan the articles and create your own digital 'book' with them in chronological order then add that as a source and just cite it once, Occupation - musician. Date span for the years. Anyone interested in future years could then flick thr...

Yes, I did. It seems to match your video tutorials so I must have done something right :)

Can I ask what you used to get the census transcript in the floating box on your tutorial demos?

Sorry, Mike, I'm not entirely sure how I ended up there either but it looked right. I downloaded the one at the bottom. Should I uninstall that and start again?

Re: Introducing myself and a little (or maybe big) question

You don't need to purchase FH to use AS . It is a free companion program you can download and install separately. See ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources Installation Guide, etc. I'm ready to have a go with Ancestral Sources now but have hesitated at the first hurdle. On the download page th...

Re: Introducing myself and a little (or maybe big) question

Another quickie question please I'm trying to tidy my rather muddled and inconsistent list of sources. Is there any particular reason to keep the BMD sources listed as two sources for each - with the two date spans - or could I just merge them to something simpler such as GRO birth register, GRO de...

Re: Introducing myself and a little (or maybe big) question

Yes, use the Edit > Merge/Compare File command to merge those pairs of GRO Index source records. They are using the Method 2 'lumper' Source Citation mode that is good for these sources. glossary:method_2_source_lumpers_mode|> Method 2 'source lumpers' mode But as Mark says, when you add BMD Certif...

Re: Marriage Witnesses

I will have to remember to do this next time I use it. Itis rare for anybody to know who the best man is and I never understood why that was a default. If I recall correctly the burial details have a witness drop down menu. How many people know the witness names? Victor I’m very new to using Family...

Re: Introducing myself and a little (or maybe big) question

Thanks, Mike, that’s reassuring. I couldn’t see any good reason to treat the separately but didn’t want to lump them together without checking.
