Re: Forum Changes

Sub Forum List now appears top and bottom of the topics. Jane, There's an unintended consequence of this that doesn't look too good if you click one of the category banners. For example: FHUG category display_-_2023-05-14_17.17.22.png If you have them at the top, I'm not sure also having them at th...

Re: Forum Changes

My inclination would be to not delete them, but to bury them out of the way so they can still be accessed and found in the searches if needed: Create a new forum in a new category Archives at the very bottom of the main board index and make the release specific and lost post archive forums subforums...

Re: Forum Changes

I'd suggest a more permanent title without any reference to "changes" as the current title (and Mark's suggestion) wouldn't encourage new members to read the post ("it's the first time I've been here, why do I need to know about changes?"). I'd suggest it should also include the list of the forums (...

Search - delay expansion?

When using the main FHUG search I find the instant expansion on hover makes it tricky to go through the results. You see one that looks promising, move the mouse towards it and if in doing so it goes over a result higher in the list that expands and your intended target is moved down. Go down to whe...

It's working for me.

What happens if you click the icon to the left of the topic name on the unread posts page?

Re: Forum Changes

I suspect that if the list of the sub forums with their descriptions was to be displayed at the top of the General Usage forum we'd have other users moaning about having to scroll down past them to get to the posts (particularly those using the forums on a mobile device).

fhOutputResultSetColumn hidden column for sorting

According to the help, the final argument to fhOutputResultSetColumn is strVisibility: strVisibility string: Indicates whether column is visible, or some kind of hidden column The options listed are 'show' (default), 'hide' and 'buddy'. I'm having trouble with this. This works: fhOutputResultSetColu...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums

Helen, If I bookmark a thread and then it is moved to another forum or subform does the bookmark change to this new location? This is not a problem, I am just curious. Thanks, Bill I believe the topic retains the same topic number (the p=137090 part of the url for this post) but the forum number wi...

It was on merging and the first paragraph is very relevant to the current discussions: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=19674

To be fair, Mark, Mxy could be searching the forums and finding answers that don't help them. You don't have to ask questions to be unhappy with the answers.
So if the answers he finds don't help, why hasn't he asked his own questions?

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums

If a plugin I'd written was being discussed in the general forum, I'd have no problem 1. creating a new topic in plugin forum with a link back to the original topic (or a particular post in the original topic) and 2. adding a post in the topic in the general forum with a link to the new topic in the...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums

I'd guess in many cases a topic in the general forum would end up being split when it evolved in to a bug report or feature request. As long as the original topic ended with a link to the new split topic I don't see why any users would have issues following the link. IMO the Plugin... forum should b...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums

Overall the proposals look good to me, I'm just concerned about plug-ins. I think the descriptions of the purpose of each of the Forums is good and wouldn't want to see any further splitting as that increases the chances of posts going to the wrong place. It's just the name 'Plugin Programming' that...

Re: Favourite Repositories

You can also manually sort the bookmarked repositories to the order you want (maybe the most commonly used at the top, and the rest alphabetically) by selecting the rows in the Bookmarks list and using the up and down arrows (and then saving as Mike said).

IUP images on buttons

I'm experimenting with putting images from https://www.tecgraf.puc-rio.br/iup/en/iupimglib.html on to a flat button and having issues with the sizing. The documentation says the images are supposed to be 32x32, but they look to be being displayed as 16x16. For example, in the documentation "IUP_Mess...

Re: unable to enter FHUG site with message Your clock is behind etc

To add to Nick's answer: rather than turning off Set the time automatically, you may find turning off Adjust for daylight saving time automatically and picking an alternative time zone that gives the + or - offset from UTC you want a better way to go.

Were you getting similar errors trying to access any other https://... sites? That error looks like it may the browsers checking the security and nothing specific to FHUG.

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released

I got a slightly longer reply: The sample project is installed and reset as part of the installation, which I am afraid it has been replaced. This is a designed. You might want to consider using a copy of the Sample Project if you are needing to customise the data. I will pass your comments over to ...

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released

To be clear, it's not that it does it that annoys, it's that it does it without any warning or message at the time. Just including an option on here FH install.png would be perfect. My main PC is a desktop with plenty of space. My second FH installation is a laptop with limited space on it's SSD so ...

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released

The sample project gets installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian\Sample anyway - I presume that is used by the reset sample project option. How about a pop up the first time FH is started after an upgrade asking if the sample project should be reset as it may contain examples of new feat...

I'd also confirmed by testing that upgrading blows away the sample project and I also think doing so without warning is PPP.

Luckily I have a backup!

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released

The first project I looked at was the sample project. Does installing an FH update reset that? I'd added quite a lot of test data for something I'm working on to the sample project and it has all disappeared. I'd also used the Ancestry Sync with that project which is how I realised something was wro...
