I didn't say that the EE method was the only way to be a splitter. However, I have read many of Gary's posts here and in groups for other software packages so I am somewhat familiar with what he is doing . So my reply was directed to him, not you.

I don't believe that is possible, unless 'Alternate Name' is a custom attribute fact.

Bev came from Rootsmagic, so yes, there is that possibility! If she used RM's alt name field and did a direct import of her database to FH she will be able to mark the alternative name as private.

In the persons Property box, you can right-click on the alternate name and assign it the Private flag.

The problem here is that by RM calling an xref_id a RIN they confuse the heck out of GEDCOM imports that actually have a RIN tag that is not equal to the xref_id.
