Re: Importing formatted text/rtf
Thanks Nick. I didn't realise FH couldn't read/convert rtf. Text and "copy and paste" it is then. As for the cell background colour, I assumed CP "bought in" a rich text editor function rather than write their own from scratch, and such third-party utilities/functions/controls/add-ins are usually qu...

Hi Helen,
No problems. It'll be a while though as I'm still finding GEDCOM import issues and need to find workarounds.

Importing formatted text/rtf
Hi All, My latest issue around moving from Relatively Yours 3 to FH7 is around rich text. RY3 has had word processing facilities for text for over 25 years. Not wanting to lose the formatted text is one of the reasons I delayed moving the FH until v7 arrived. It appears I waited for nothing! RY3 has...

Re: Importing Places and Addresses
Thank you Helen and Mike. I can use some of your suggestions to clean up many Place formatting issues, the rest can do manually. Or I'll just edit the incoming GEDCOM as that may be quicker. (Oh, BTW, when I'm finished the move from Relatively Yours 3 to FH7 I intend to create a Thread post document...

Re: Importing Places and Addresses
Hi Mike, There are no "extra" commas for missing data. For example an entry for just a country is simply: Country not , , , Country . And if I have an Address and just a Country then I just have: address, Country But your suggestion about using the Filter tab may very well work. I will investigate. ...

Re: Importing Places and Addresses
Hi Helen, I didn't think there would be an automatic solution but thought I'd ask anyway. I have read the article on Places and Address. (I had read this, and many other, articles before I decided on moving to FH.) I had decided that geocoding to the town level, rather than the actual address, is en...

Importing Places and Addresses
Hi All, I'm, slowly, working on moving from Relatively Yours 3 (RY3) to FH7 and I have a question around Places and Addresses. Just like FH7, RY3 has separate Place and Address fields. Unfortunately the RY3 GEDCOM export concatenates both fields into a PLAC tag (with no ADDR tag). So I end up with P...

I always assume "Apps" to be for iOS or Android (phones or tablets). But maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Re: Importing and TITLE
Thanks for the confirmation Mike. Unfortunately RY3 only has a Version 5.5 GEDCOM export option. I'll have a look at your suggestion to add an INDI.ADOP record however I don't have date and place data. I only know they are adopted. They fact I only have 4 of them and they are children of distant cou...

Re: Importing and TITLE
Hi All, I have another issue with my RY3 to FH GEDCOM, this time with Adoptions. The problem is that I don't seem to have a problem! The Import Log is showing as follows: Record Type=Family. Gedcom Id=F135. Record Number=129. l.108768 - INFO ONLY: Loaded uncategorised data (non-GEDCOM): "2 ADOP " l....

Re: Importing and TITLE
Thank you Lorna and Mike. Your information helps me with another issue - de facto relationships. The FH GEDCOM import Exception List gives warnings about lines 1 TYPE d . When checking, I found these to all be FAM records where the couple were not/never married. The RY3 exported GEDCOM has de-facto ...

Re: Importing and TITLE
Hi All, Continuing on my journey from Relatively Yours 3 to FH, I think I have an issue with Divorces. The GEDCOM from RY3 has: 1 DIV 2 DATE 1925 2 PLAC Anytown, New South Wales, Australia in the FAMily structure and a Divorce fact is created in FH and a correctly worded sentence is displayed, howev...

Re: Importing and TITLE
Thanks Mike. I think I'll live without this data. My understanding of Source Templates is limited at present but I think that dates have to be manually entered (in RY3 it defaulted to the current date) and I'm likely to find manual entry a pain for limited gain.
Thanks,
Glenn
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: Importing and TITLE
Hi Mike, Thanks for the response. Yes the PLAC entries have no place names. The RY3 GEDCOM export creates a PLAC for any event, even if no place is specified for that event. And yes, the TYPE 0 and TYPE 1 are auto created in RY3. The TYPE 2 and TYPE 4 are manually entered and I've never used them (o...

Re: Importing and TITLE
Hi All, I'm back to trying to import from Relatively Yours 3. I've manually cleaned up the Title records in RY3. They were Titles on Contact Lists. I had less than a dozen so removed them in RY3. So one task down. RY3 allows you to check a box when you know a person is deceased but know no other det...

(don't Intel love it when their rival develops an architecture first and has it named after them... Don't forget that AMD largely got where it is today by creating a reverse engineered clone of Intel chips ;) Anyway, thanks for creating this new backup pluging. Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings via Windows - new plugin
Even without the map cache, a settings backup is about 1500 files. Further copying of lots of small files (e.g. upload to cloud storage) is a lot slower than a handful of zip files. As a general point, optimising dated backups is probably more useful than providing zipping. Would archiving the file...

Re: gedcom files and ipad
@Woodg: Yes, you are correct. The GEDCOM must be imported into Heredis for Windows and then use Heredis for iOS on the iPad to migrate the data. Bummer. I was hoping I was wrong. I've been looking for an Android app to view my data (as created from FH) on my phone. I don't really want to go through...

Re: gedcom files and ipad
Sorry for butting in... but I recall reading somewhere that Heredis 2022 on mobile devices doesn't import GEDCOMs, only files in a Heredis 2022 format. Certainly I couldn't import a GEDCOM on my Android phone.

Re: Restoring Settings to New OS Build
Would it be possible to encourage Calico Pie to incorporate a proper settings backup in their product? I downloaded it a couple of days ago and just downloaded is again a couple of minutes ago. Both times were successful.

Hi Mike, Yes, I have read the KnowledgeBase articles on importing. RY3 allows export in PAF and a GEDCOM designed to be imported to another installation of RY3 - and they two GEDCOMs are different! I'm currently testing the two different GEDCOMs to see if one imports better than the other. You may s...
