Work with data, Places
Hi All, (Whilst this issue arose from my conversion to FH7, it is not specific to importing.) I have found an issue (bug? undocumented feature?) with Work With Data, Places. All my places and addresses are imported to FH7 as a concatenation of Address and Place into Place in FH7. For example, I have...

Re: Lookup Missing BDM Records v2.6
Hi Mike, Thanks for the update. I only have 24 Julian dates but as I get multiple messages per person this can produce a large number of errors (I tried a single person Lookup and received 16 warnings for one person and 12 warnings for another example). As I only have 24 Julian dates (and most are o...

Lookup Missing BDM Records v2.6
Hi All, Tried running the Lookup Missing BDM Records plugin, version 2.6. Received a warning: Lookup Missing BDM warning.png OK, I thought, better get out of this plugin and see why I'm getting this warning/error. Clicking on the x or OK just continues onto the same warning for a different date. The...

Re: Questions on (Templated) Sources
A possible solution to the data that needs to appear in two places (i.e. Individual Fact Fields and Source Template Fields) is to use Ancestral Sources, which captures such data once and uses templates & codes to save it in multiple fields in FH. I think an appropriate Data Entry Assistant in FH co...

Re: Questions on (Templated) Sources
Remember, the fields in the Source Template are there to help you and others relocate/locate the same source or a copy of it -- the fields are identifying the Source not the facts you've derived from it. And in reports, you can't easily go from the source to (say) the individual. So, when you were ...

Questions on (Templated) Sources
Hi All, I have a couple of questions on data fields on sources which you may be able to help me with. Using a Birth Certificate as an example: Principal, Location and Address Fields. A lot of the time the Principal, Location and Address will be from the person in the Property Box. Is there any way t...

Notes on importing from Relatively Yours 3
Hi All, As many of you know, I am moving from Relatively Yours 3 (RY3) to Family Historian 7 (FH7). With considerable assistance from the User Group members and the Knowledge Base, I have (mostly) completed this. During my work I have created copious notes (and created a Query) detailing the issues ...

Re: Tidying up Notes
Most GEDCOMs I've seen have a HEAD tag at the start of the file with details on the source of the data. It usually shows the software that produced it, along with the version number and date extracted. Here's an example: 0 HEAD 1 SOUR Reunion 2 VERS V8.0 2 CORP Leister Productions 1 DEST Reunion 1 D...

I, too, am a fan of FTAnalyzer, although I've not used it a lot. I find it useful for finding things like person married after they died, or children born before birth of parent. It can tell you much more, too.

Re: Change any Fact plugin
Hi Mike, I've just found an issue with this plugin. Re: Change any Fact plugin
Hi Mike, I was testing your new version of the Change Any Fact plugin (so I could update my conversion notes) and I discovered an issue that I suspect is applicable to all plugins and not just Change Any Facts (and may very well be a known issue). If you run the plugin and select Change all the rest...

Re: Sensitivity
In case you don't know, it's possible to hide individual boxes or whole branches in diagrams. Right click on a box in the diagram and choose Hide. Any branch attached to that box will also be hidden. You can then save the diagram as a Family Historian Chart, which can be opened using Charts > Saved...

Sensitivity
Hi all. Still testing my move from Relatively Yours 3 to FH7. RY3 has a number of "sensitivity" checkboxes such as Person is of a Sensitive Nature, Parent-Child Relationship is of a Sensitive Nature, Event (Fact) is of a Sensitive Nature, Portfolio (Media) Objects, even down to individual event desc...

Re: Reasearch Notes - How do I use them?
I forgot to add a big thanks to davidf for his explanation about the GEDCOM format. Most of it I knew but the FAMx records confused me. I didn't quite understand the difference between FAMC and FAMS but now I know. I guess it's kind of obvious - most people are a member of two families, one as a spo...

Re: Reasearch Notes - How do I use them?
Wow. Who would have thought that my questions would provoke such a response! Thank you all for your posts. They are helpful. One thing this indicates, to me at least, is that CPs work on Research Notes is a little underwhelming. I wanted to make some clarifications about my understandings on Notes. ...

Thanks Sarah. I had read the Knowledgebase article. I'll now go and read the threads you linked to. Just need to work out if I can link from OneNote back to specific record in ...

Reasearch Notes - How do I use them?
Hi All, I trying to understand Research Notes, and Notes in general. I not talking about the notes that can be added to a fact. I understand those. Firstly, I know I can: add a note for an Individual only - something related to only that person. Seems to also be known as a Local Note. add a Shared N...

Re: Relatively Yours Media import
Hi Mike, Thanks for the response. May I make sure I understand the difference to Media Records and LMOs? LMOs link directly to a file, leaving the file in its original location. If I want to add that same file to another person/family, I create another LMO. A Media Record allows a file to be attache...

Relatively Yours Media import
Hi All, I'm getting down to the last issues with migrating from RY3 to FH7 and have an issue with media files. The Media records are created correctly in FH7 for all media. That's a good start! RY3 allows you to attach media to an Event. For example, an image of a birth certificate against the birth...
