Re: Press notices

Thanks, that what I wanted confirmed particularly.
Text From Source would hold a literal transcript of the press notice.
Note would only mention any unusual circumstances not apparent otherwise.

Press notices

I have a number of press reports of deaths. I've used AS to enter what data I can in relation to the actual death. This has obviously created the Source and (I now know) a number of citations. I've edited the autotext from AS to delete quite a few items not present in the press report. The text of t...

Re: Source - Terminology

Note that the asterisk appears if there are one or more source(s). In other words there will be no asterisk if there are no sources. OK this is all part of the confusion around consistent use of terminology. Thanks I'll have a look at that Plug-in. It was not one I had downloaded previously, so cou...

RCE Entries

I was looking at how best to deal with RCE entries, and found the topic at 11978|Death with Corrected Entry useful. One little question however. I therefore created Two source records, one for the original certificate, the second for the RCE document. The death event should cite both sources. But is...

Re: Source - Terminology

Having read & re-read the book, your answers, and looked at the Sample Project, I'm still a bit puzzled on one point. fh book.jpg The book says If a Field has one or more Source citations, as Birth does, it has an asterisk. (my Bold) I'm not sure I can see this yet. I can see that the Source has 7 C...

Re: Source - Terminology

Thanks for the feedback both of you. After reading them, I decided to look at the "Getting the most from FH" book. The index contains no entry for "Citations", but it does have "Source Citations", thus (initially) adding to my confusion. However, having read that and the forum replies, it does becom...

Source - Terminology

As a relative newcomer, I still find difficulty using the correct terminology in FH. One minor bit that always gets me is in the Source Pane in the Properties Panel (hopefully the right terms). fh source.jpg In my mind I find the words "Add Citation" at the bottom left to be confusing. Surely what w...

Re: Cannot install Plugin problem

I should have mentioned that I did try and load a plugin that I did not already have, and it installed perfectly and was available on both devices. I haven't yet tried the Diagrams etc, but I will do shortly. I'm pretty sure I would have registered the product when I first installed it on my Desktop...

Re: Cannot install Plugin problem

Think I've worked out what the problem was. When I went to set up the Symbolic link, the "C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian" was completely empty, no subfolders at all - in particular no "plugins" subfolder. So the install almost certainly fell over for that reason. It is a more than a few ...

Re: Cannot install Plugin problem

That's got my Symbolic link set up. All Plugins (and reports etc) now visible. No need to install the Plugins. Looks as if I won't even need to run the Restore bit of the Back-up & Restore Plugin. I will check that however. All a bit strange, but seems to be OK now. Off to install AS now. Thanks Colin

Re: Cannot install Plugin problem

There is no "registered to" (on my Desktop or Laptop version). I bought from a third party supplier, not direct from Calico, not sure if that makes a difference! It does say Family Historian Version 6.2.7 at the very top. No there are no plugins listed. So far I have nothing restored. I was planning...

Cannot install Plugin problem

Just re-building my laptop after re-installing Windows. I previously had FH v6.2.7.0 running perfectly with files stored on One-Drive linked to my Desktop PC. I've re-installed FH (using the original disk and code). FH seems to be working perfectly, and I've got it working with the synced project. I...

Re: Create a Fact stating the 'Condition' of the Married Couple

Not quite sure that my question is exactly the same as this one, but this was the nearest I could find on searching the forum I'm looking for a way to mark a person as a bachelor (or a spinster) at death. This is a distinction from not knowing if they were married, in this case I know (as best as on...

Re: Sort Dates with no Links

Good question Or are they all a complete mystery and no longer required? I do try and read articles for myself, so I'm pretty sure I would have read about them first, and I've re-read about them. So they are not a Complete Mystery, but almost certainly a Partial Mystery. I am now ready to delete the...

Re: Sort Dates with no Links

Sorry Mike, I didn't fully understand the implication of the question. I believe I have used the Sort Date Plug-in in the past when experimenting. I uninstalled it, as I did not see any use for it at the time. It was part of a process to look at several plug-ins to see if they were of use/interest t...

Re: Sort Dates with no Links

Thanks Helen for your input too.

I've done a Filter on the Media Window with the word "Sort" which seems to have done the same as your Custom Query. Or is there a reason to do a Custom Query.

I now have all of my filtered Media records in a new Named List.

Re: Sort Dates with no Links

Morning Mike and thanks for the help. I assume you have used the Order Facts by Sort Date Plugin and wish to employ Sort Dates in some way? In fact I had simply sorted the Media Records window by Links . I had spotted that I had a single jpg Media Record entered twice, once with a link to a person, ...

Sort Dates with no Links

I have approx. 40 Sort Dates in my Media List with no links sort.jpg All the others have links, but these ones seem to be "orphaned". Should I delete them? Re: Fact type for Newspaper Articles and other assorted media

Thanks for responses. My research will be mostly in diagrams and reports for sharing with family. No plans for websites or any wider distribution. Tying them in with existing facts such as BMD or occupation does therefore seem to be attractive, with the catch-all "Newspaper Article" fact to sweep up...

Fact type for Newspaper Articles and other assorted media

I have a number of press articles (and other media) to be included, but no obvious fact type to enter them under. In one case I have a story about a train driver's 25 years in the role. That could possibly be entered as an occupation fact? A house fire destroying the whole property - could that be r...
