Re: Ability to Change Type of Fact
Excellent. I was familiar with the Fact Types window, as I’ve added custom types and have hidden and shown types. The “custom” type seemed self explanatory. What was not clear to me was that “standard” is more or less equivalent to GEDCOM types/tags and that “extended” are those added by Family Hist...

Re: Ability to Change Type of Fact
David — Thanks for the response. Perhaps one disadvantage of only using Occupation, with Employment in notes, is that the jobs would not show up in timelines. Unless, that’s what you propose by using =GetLabelledText . Unfortunately that approach is beyond my pay grade. I frequently think that my ch...

Re: Ability to Change Type of Fact
I was unaware that Employment was not a standard GEDCOM fact. Wish there was a way to know which elements of FH will not transfer into standard GEDCOM fields. To answer you question — I consider Occupation to be an individual’s profession that may encompass several jobs. Employment is each individua...

Re: Ability to Change Type of Fact
I had the very same need last week: wanted to change Occupation facts to Employment, so I read this thread with interest. Looks like I made the right decision to just copy the fact text to a text editor and then paste it into new facts. Always glad to see what you all are thinking/working on for FH7.

Re: Research notes not linking to individuals
Yup. It appears I had been adding Shared Research Notes from property boxes last year (rather than from the Add > Research Note menu) to make the records link. I’ve now clarified my written procedures to follow that route. Thanks!

Research notes not linking to individuals
A change has occurred in the way research notes are behaving. In the past, when I created a Research note and linked it within the note to an Individual or Family record in FH7, the Research Note was displayed in the Notes tab for that individual or family. The research notes that I've entered over ...

Use existing source?
I've read the AS help and looked through FHUG posts---all seem to assume that a new source is being entered in AS. Can I edit a source that already exists in FH7 using Ancestral Sources?

Re: Adding source templates to AS--what am I missing?
Thanks, Nick. I had followed the instructions as you describe prior to writing as that seemed to be the process. The glitch is that the All Templates drop-down is greyed out and not active: see screenshot.
Also attached is a screenshot showing that my custom templates are loaded in my project.

Adding source templates to AS--what am I missing?
It has been a while since I've used Ancestral Sources and I'm stumped. I had previously imported source templates from FH7 to AS and then, after rethinking the templates I deleted the custom ones I had prepared and started over. I now have three custom templates in my FH7 project. I am unsuccessful ...

Re: Export Geo Coordinates?
Hmmm, that seems an odd approach for them, if they really want to be a genealogy platform. Earlier today I wrote to Trackuback, sharing both of our experiences. I’ll let you know their response. Thanks for the follow up! Just got a response from Trackuback. After explaining that they're new and work...

Re: Export Geo Coordinates?
@tatewise — Just saw the post about your experiment with Trackuback, after posting mine. I too have only an evaluation, free account ‘till I see if the program does what I want it to do. It’s a promising premise, but only if they can deliver.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Export Geo Coordinates?
I presume you have actually used the FH Map Window to geocode Place names in FH. i.e. In the Records Window, on the Places tab, the Latitude/Longitude column lists coordinates. I do not use the FH Map Window to geocode Place names. Instead, I manually enter coordinates in the Place Property Box. So...

Re: Export Geo Coordinates?
I did some testing to export from FH7 with the methods noted in my first post. When I look at the resulting GEDCOM in a text editor I can not find lat and long. If I open the exported GEDCOM with FH7, the coordinates are not there. As you say, Trackuback may not be able to read the info. However, I ...

Export Geo Coordinates?
I wish to export a GEDCOM file that includes latitude and longitude coordinates for my places in my FH7. The program to which I wish to import the file maps family places on present-day and historical maps. I have exported using the Export GEDCOM plugin and the FH export function. The place names co...

Re: Number of Place elements in GEDCOM?
Thank you! I must have conflated PAF and GEDCOM.
But isn't PAF part of GECOM---well, guess that's a discussion for another time.
As always, thanks to you all for the responses.

Number of Place elements in GEDCOM?
I recently read in a 1999 publication that GEDCOM 5.5 accommodates a maximum of four (4) levels for Place. Is this true? I’m concerned because I utilize seven (7) Place elements, separated by commas, in my FH7 database and would not want critical information lost in an export to GEDCOM. I’ve searche...

Re: Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?
Thanks all for hanging in with me on this topic. It is a Citation and linked Source record prepared in combination. However, the linked Citation is only temporary : how is that useful? I now understand HOW to create a Prepared Citation but not WHY. A Prepared Citation is designed to be the starting ...
