Short Titles in AS 7.7
Short titles will no longer be recorded if templated sources are used. In the announcement of changes to Ancestral Sources in v. 7.7 there is mention that Short Titles are no longer recorded with templated sources. I rely on Short Titles as my primary organizing scheme for sources. Yes, even with t...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Thanks, again, for the thoughtful replies to my post. In response to those seeking clarification of my question, I offer the following. SOURCE RECORD TITLE & GENEALOGICAL RECORD TITLE The confusion that prompted the query is reflected in my post’s title: “Source Record Title confusion.” The quoted s...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Thanks for that Mark. I had posed the question about converting generic sources to templated ones earlier in this thread. Looks like I will continue to "mix and match" sources.Conversion is only viable if you are prepared to build your own custom plugin.

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Part of my confusion may be inconsistent use of terms. There are several titles under consideration. 1) Source Record Title. 2) Verbatum or descriptive title of the source record as found. 3) Short Title. What I gather from recent comments is that if one wishes to have title #2 in a GEDCOM sympathet...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Thanks, Adrian. Most of it makes sense. So in other words, the simplest case for a published book is that TITL contains the title of the book. The simplest case for an unpublished document is that TITL contains some sort of description of the document that can be used to find it in the Archives' Cat...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
My initial question was not about templates, but rather the FH7 Title field. More generally, my interest lies in the transferability of my FH7 data to other platforms I use and those used by anyone who may utilize my research. I’m attempting to clarify how the FH7 Source Record Title and Short Title...

"When you see a list of Source records, the record title will be the name shown for each Source record." -- CP Help files ----------- It appears from the replies to my post that others were also unclear about CP’s help text, posted above, regarding display of the FH7 Source Record Title (SOUR.TITL) ...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Thanks for the response. Templated Sources have only a Title (generated according to the Template definition). This Title is used as the identifier in the Source Records list. Attached is a screenshot of my sources showing three created from Source Templates. Each has both a Short Title and a Title....

Source Record Title confusion
I believe I misunderstood the following from CP help (which means I need to redo all of my source titles!). The quoted section can be found here: https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help/fh7/sourcetemplatedefinitiondialog.html Whenever you create a Source record, from a template or not, it will need ...

Re: Question on image metadata - date + keywords
strathglass — Thanks for your response. I will consider the import of having the metadata date in the Media Record. I do enter the historical date in my file names, but those could be edited in the future. I will add that not all image software conforms to the standards published by IPTC. Commonly t...

Based upon consideration of this thread I’ve also disabled the FH metadata import. What is the disadvantage of doing so?

Re: Question on image metadata - date + keywords
I was alarmed to read about the issue with metadata keywords and immediately checked a few of the media files that I had uploaded to FH. Please clarify the following for me. The original post was concerned with why “IPTC keywords are not imported ;” my emphasis. The next post copies FH help files ab...

Thanks. See screenshot: there is no option to unlink Joseph in the focus window. Even delete is greyed out on a right click.

Remove erroneous parent in family chart
I ended up with two sets of parents for individual X. I deleted X from the wrong parents in their focus window spouse/children panel. I deleted the link to the erroneous family from X's record. However, a blank box remains as a parent for X in my family chart; see screenshot. How do I remove the box...

Re: Extra commas in PLACe field 10
Ah ha. Yes, using geocoordinates in the place field does make sense. It would be particularly useful when sharing data for a location that had evolving names through history. One would know it was the same place due to lat and long, even without the data in the fh PLACe field.

Interesting. Can’t answer your question, but curios to know your reasoning. Why not use the lat and long fields for the coordinates.

Where in Ancestral Sources is the facility found? It is totally fine to leave your existing sources as generic and start using templated if you wish. There is a facility in AS that can help you to convert generic census sources into templated sources if you wanted to use that,…

Re: 'Standardized Version' of Place Names
If I manually enter Latitude & Longitude values for each place, is there any need to also enter a value for the "Standardized Version" of the place name? It seems redundant to me, so I’m not planning on entering standardized place name values unless told otherwise. Mardon - Just a comment on your p...

Maybe this needs a Knowledge Base article on the subject (I was surprised there was not one already.) That may avoid the confusion in use of the term natu...
