Re: Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?
When I create a source in advance (Source > Create Source / Prepared Citation...) using a Source Template the window that opens is labeled “Prepared Citation.” Just as Source Records can be created when encountered and in advance of when they might be needed (what I was calling a “Prepared Source”),...

Re: Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?
Don’t worry, use FH anyway you like, .... That's what I've spent the last 3 years trying to do: figure out how I wish to use FH. Hence my frustration. I guess it doesn't help that I came along when all the changes were made for version 7. Among changes made by FH 7, I fully embrace the ability to e...

Re: Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?
Hold on: I was confusing Date Entry Assistants with Source Templates. I do not use DEAs. I chose FH because of its flexibility, but maybe it's too much for me. I'm spending all my time trying to figure out the software, rather than entering genealogical information! I haven't given up yet---only bec...

Re: Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?
Thanks for the response. I do use source-driven data entry (DEAs) but not ASC—automatic source citation(?). I had not found the “upgrade” page. A 'Prepared Source' (not sure where you found that terminology) is (I assume) just a Source that has been created, by e.g. adding a source via the Source Re...

Prepared Source and Prepared Citation?
I need help understanding the difference between a prepared source and a prepared citation. I split (rather than lump) my sources so I often have source records that that specific to a page in a document such as a census. Should I also create a prepared citation for a page when it is already listed ...

Re: Display All Source References?
Those data have no values when the Source record is viewed in isolation. OK. The values go with the citation, not the source. It was a long-shot, but thought I'd see if there was a way to get the results I wanted. Thanks. The answer helps me decide how I will construct my custom source templates go...

Re: Display All Source References?
I am hoping to be able to see the information for every source record, displayed not by fact (found that) but rather by source. What are the Footnote, Short Footnote, and Bibliography entries for source x, source y, source z, etc.? What are the Title and Short Title for source x, source y, source z,...

Display All Source References?
How can I view all of the bibliographic information for each (all) source? I wish to see the Footnote, Short Footnote, and Bibliography entries such as those shown in the optional side panel of the Citation Window (see screenshot), plus the Short Title and Long Title. Screenshot 2021-11-14 11.33_edi...

Re: Querying Source Template Field Code?
Perfect. Thanks, Mike. I think I have a handle on working with metafields. On a related issue, I've been experimenting with trying to use SOURce data references in my custom source template definitions (e.g., %SOUR.REPO%) so that I don't have to create a duplicate metatag fields (e.g., {Source_Repos...

Querying Source Template Field Code?
When creating custom source template definitions I added some of my own template fields. There is one field that I want to appear in every source record I create with each custom source template. Is it possible to find a specific Source Template Field Code when querying sources? I can get a result u...

Re: What are good FH7 and iOS app combinations?
At less than a fiver, in my opinion GedView is a really great option. It's mature and regularly updated. No trial version. Follow the link from the iOS App Store to the developer's web site where you will find a comprehensive User Guide and Screenshots of every feature. The beauty of this app is it...

Re: Generic Source Type in FH7
I was thinking reports such as the Source Summary and queries. It doesn’t seem necessary to include the type (“physical form,” according to Elizabeth Shown Mills) of sources in footnotes. But, if I change my mind, I have your above advice to fall back on. Thank you.

Re: Generic Source Type in FH7
I produced the attached report (screenshot) which successfully displays the Generic Source Type as "Source Type." The first record was created with FH6 generic and the second with a FH7 template. Thanks for your help. EDIT: Ooops! Just noticed that "Type" was also showing, which I have now hidden. [...

Re: Generic Source Type in FH7
Thanks for both responses. Mike — I had previously discovered the ability to add the Generic Type to individual sources created with templates, but had it my head that I needed to get Generic Type in the source template itself or the template definition to affect future source records. So, I was fut...

Generic Source Type in FH7
In FH6 I used Source Type to keep track of four categories of sources. 1) First-original sources – material in its first form regarding content and physical makeup that is in my possession. Examples: a bound journal with handwritten entries, letters, or a paper diploma carrying an embossed universit...

Re: Rich text when editing research notes?
Ah ha! That’s the key—click on the vertical bar on the right. Guess I never noticed it before, or thought it part of the scroll bar. Thanks.
By the way, is this documented somewhere (I searched and couldn’t find any reference.)

Rich text when editing research notes?
I use rich text when creating research notes. I would also like to have rich text available when updating research notes created earlier. For example, the ability to hyperlink text to some of my results. I'm guessing that if that were possible, the function would be there. Any options for me to cons...

Re: Transfer FH7 to new computer?
Thanks. I found that resource. However, my question is how to download a new copy of fh7 (I think I understand backup and restore). When I login to FH and try to download the software, it creates a charge in the checkout basket. I want to use my existing license.

Transfer FH7 to new computer?
I have searched FH help, the Knowledge Base, and posts---can't find any information about downloading FH7 to a new computer using an existing license. (Most recent topic was from 2015.) Can anyone direct me to a resource that will enable me to begin using FH7 on my new laptop?
